Sorry for the mediocre photo, but I am a little bit proud of my self-built bike hanging System for my little workshop. It’s comprised of four pieces: the hanger itself, two wall-mounted straps and one strap to secure the front wheel to the frame. I made everything from leather and wood scraps I had lying around and it works really well. The workshop isn’t super huge, so it’s a good idea to hang the bike high to allow for more space to work. 😁

Oh, and I also finished my shaving horse. But that’s another story … stay tuned ☺️

So we’ve recently realized that this old cutting/presenting board didn’t get any use. As I was in need for a little side table in my workshop anyway, I split up a nice piece of dry ash and quickly made three legs. The bark has already come off partially, so I enhanced the look with some facets. All in all, a quick and rough job, but nevertheless, I really like the outcome. Now a bit of oil and we’re good.

The first two pieces I carved from my huge stock pile: a set of salad servers out of this magnificent plum. I split the first piece of the log in about 12 pieces from which 10 now wait for becoming spoons and stuff. Fresh Plum is really delicious to carve and the colors and grain are simply stunning. Really enjoyed those pieces!
approves as well (or doesn’t give a d*** – not sure) 😂

My new shop is coming along nicely. I just made a rack for all my chisels to be in good reach at my workbench. Used some scrap wood I had lying around. Doesn’t win a beauty prize, but it will serve me well. The only downside is, I have two chisels left that I couldn’t fit in. 🫣 should I build another one for them? What do you think?

Even though I am still in the middle of moving into my new shop, yesterday I got a huge pile of wonderfully fresh cut Birch and Plum wood. Naturally, I couldn’t help but cut my first piece of plum into billets. It took me quite a bit of elbow grease to get through it with the Silky, and even more to split it. But look at that grain – that surely was worth the sweat!

Guess I just upped my spoon design game 😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So it’s high time I show you everything that I found on our trip to Sweden. There’s flea markets (they call them Loppis) all over the place, from garages to courtyards over old school houses to big halls full of stuff. I guess Swedes just enjoy to roam around these.

With most of the stuff I got there, I am planning to restore it. For example, all the hammers and the axes are loose and have to get rehung, and of course I’ll deal with the rust and resharpen them. The two Moras will get the blade treatment, and for the one on the right, I’ll make a sheath as well. The third knife is pretty demolished, so I’ll probably make a new handle. The plane will get wooden handles and a fairly complete rework. Oh, and the thing on the far left is for leatherwork. You heat up the tip and then mould wax on the leather edges, I guess. Gonna do a bit more research on how to exactly use it. The three small files are new old stock, so I’ll surely use those.

All in all, it’s enough stuff to keep me busy for some time. Not sure yet what will happen with the hammers and knives, but I am pretty sure I’ll keep both axes. The single head is an old Hults Bruk, the complete one looks like a no name. But I can make good use of them both. So stay tuned for the first restorations here!

Life’s better when you’re on vacation. Started a small cherry teaspoon today. Looks promising and the Cherry (self-imported) is nearly dried out, so I guess I’ll be finishing it by tomorrow or so. But now, let’s have a barbecue, shall we?

Do you know what Loppis means? In Sweden, it’s a yard sale or flea market. You find it everywhere in the country, as Swedes apparently don’t like to throw away things. So you often have the chance to find old stuff incredibly cheap. As I hoped to find some tools to restore, I already visited a few and found some gems. I think I’ll find a bit more as well! Fingers crossed! 🤞

We finally made it to Sweden! After 1.400km of driving, we arrived at our first stop, with their amazing exhibitions and park. What a start for a beautiful holiday!
