As new Air BnB hosts, naturally we were a little nervous to get involved but upon our 2022 reflections, we couldn’t be happier with our venture.

We are fortunate that Aberdare Lodge, Cessnock came with a strong foundation, and in 2023 our focus is to extend our offering and encapsulate the essence of the Hunter Valley throughout the property.

We wish to thank all our guests to date! We are humbled by your beautiful reviews and are committed to ensuring your every stay is one to remember.

Homage to the Hunter ⏳

Grand Designs host, Kevin McCloud singled out Cessnock as a place that captured his imagination architecturally.

Even after visiting Collins Street, Melbourne and The Rocks, Sydney, the reputable presenter admitted to photographing almost every house along Cessnock’s main road: 1920s and 1930s domestic architecture, an era he believes is undervalued in the UK.

The passage of these cottages through generations is a fascinating Australian story. Typically a miner's cottage was built by its owner, ‘sweat equity’.

The architecture reflects decades of affordability and durability. Cessnock is unique in the way the town continues to thrive, without airs and graces, but with charm and history, and that the best history is a continuing one, with new uses for the old, ensuring new adventures ahead.

Location is everything 📍

Aberdare Lodge is situated on a quiet, family friendly street. A short 2 minute drive will lead you to Cessnock’s town centre and a 10 minute drive will have you in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine region.

For the Sydney-siders, the most direct drive north from Sydney takes around two hours via the M1 motorway. For a scenic road trip, take the Calga exit for Tourist Drive 33 to historic Wollombi and then on to Pokolbin/Cessnock. This drive takes around 2hr 30min.

The Hunter Valley is also within easy reach of Newcastle Airport.

For those who want to encapsulate the entire journey our good friends at provide seamless and luxurious transfers.

Transfers include (but not limited to) a day touring the stunning Hunter Valley wine country, a connection to your favourite dining destination, or a private transfer for business or leisure. 🍾
