Blair House Student Hostel Inc. Blair House Student Hostel provides weekly boarding for rural students. Our facitilities are provided generously by TerraCom Resources - Blair Athol.

This is our new page, beginning in 2024 Blair House Student Hostel is under new management as of 8th March, 2024. With the generosity of TerraCom Resources - Blair Athol mine, we are able to facilitate this fantastic boarding opportunity to the Clermont and surrounding regional areas. Blair House hostel was established through Council in partnership with Rio Tinto Coal Australia. The prem

ises consists of 13 bedrooms with individual ensuites and study facilities, a large functioning kitchen and dining area and activities area. It has large grassed areas for outside recreations. In 2008 the operation of the facility was handed fully to a volunteer committee and Rio Tinto upgraded the facilities with new fittings and a new BBQ and outdoor area. The hostel provides weekly boarding for rural students attending the Clermont State High School, Clermont State Primary School and St. Joseph's Primary School. This allows families on outlying properties to remain connected with their children instead of needing to travel to larger centres for education. It also benefits the stability and growth of the regional agricultural industry by retaining our agricultural families in the community whilst supporting the Clermont State High School Centre of Learning Excellence in a Rural Setting agricultural training program. The hostel has a fulltime boarding house mistress and manager, Kathryn Wilton, and is quickly gaining a reputation for excellent care and hospitality beyond the local region. Our old page is still available to peruse photos of the past students and years. We have had to make a new page due to admin unable to be changed. Blair House Closure

Due to recent enquiries, this statement is provided for clarity.

All remaining funds and assets are being managed strictly in accordance with the Blair House constitution. Funds are required to be donated to like organisations. As there are no comparable student hostels locally, funds will be donated to student hostels within Queensland. All assets will be sold, and proceeds donated once accounts are finalised.

These matters have been managed by the current committee through the appropriate channels. No further commentary will be provided.

📣Blair House Student Hostel to Close After Two Decades of Service📣
Clermont, QLD - Blair House Student Hostel Inc., a cornerstone of Clermont’s educational support network, today announced that after more than two decades of service, the Blair House Student Hostel Committee has made the extremely difficult decision to close the facility at the end of the 2025 school year.

The decision follows years of uncertainty and sustained community effort to keep Blair House open. Despite every attempt by the Committee, families, staff, and volunteers, ongoing low enrolments and limited funding mean the current model is no longer sustainable.
“This has been an incredibly tough decision for the Committee, and not one we make lightly,” a spokesperson said. “For decades, Blair House has provided a safe and supportive place for students to live while continuing their education. However, despite our ongoing efforts, the facility can no longer operate with so many future uncertainties. We are proud of what Blair House has offered over the years, and we will always value the role it has played in the lives of so many families.”

This outcome is certainly not what the Committee and House Parent, Kathryn, were working toward when taking on Blair House two years ago, at a time when it was already on the verge of closure. Back in 2024, advice was given to “close on a high,” yet the Committee chose instead to continue for another year, ensuring students and families still had access to a safe and supportive home until now.

A Legacy of Support

For more than 20 years, Blair House has provided a caring, family-style environment for students from across the region, allowing young people from rural areas to continue their education in Clermont. Generations of students have benefited thanks to the tireless efforts of staff, families, volunteers, and community supporters.
Blair House, established in 2003 to support regional students and their families, has long been part of Clermont’s education story. Its legacy is one of community spirit, care, and commitment to local families.

Acknowledgements

The Committee expresses its heartfelt thanks to every student, parent, staff member, and supporter who has been part of the Blair House story. Your dedication and belief in the importance of regional education kept Blair House going far longer than anyone thought possible.
The Committee also acknowledges the support of TerraCom, owners of the property, who are assisting throughout the closure process. Their contribution, along with that of countless community members, has helped sustain Blair House during challenging times.

While it is heartbreaking to see this chapter close, the memory of Blair House will remain one of service, support, and the belief that every young person deserves the chance to continue their education, regardless of distance. ❤️
