Shout out to the fire fighters who have amazingly risked their lives to so far save our Alpine Village. Fingers crossed it will be still standing once these fires are gone. The skeleton trees of the Victorian Alps. Snow gums are one of Australia's hardiest trees, able to withstand severe winter temperatures and winds. But unlike other gums which love a good fire, they're not so good with the heat. The sensitive alpine environment also takes decades to rejuvenate from fire (often from lightening hitting the mountain tops) because of the cool climate, so the end result is the whispy white whiskers that outline our ridges. A unique natural phenomenon.

Bill's reporting 14cm of snow in the last 24 hours, with half of that falling overnight. The mountain has a fresh white coat and there are glades of glory in the trees.
