* Pre party assessments*

Protecting the hosts and guests with a robust plan.

One of the reasons why I attend your home or venue for the pre party assessment is to ensure you as the host provide duty of care which equals a safe environment for everyone attending your home -
I will physically walk around your home - provide immediate feedback on the risks I see, but also the issues in regards to gatecrashers, alcohol, neighbours , numbers of guests and how many helpers would be needed - like I always say we will hold your hand all the way

* Preventing gatecrashers

We provide pre party risk assessment so what does this mean ? To ensure minimal visits from gatectrashers I attend your home, gather information on likely hood of unwanted guests, do research in regards to the venue / area and establish how often unwanted guests attend events and cause problems
Once I have this information I will the assign staff based on risk
Police always receive a briefing from me in regards to the event and likelihood of trouble

What makes our team different is our specialised experience working at youth parties, family events and private functions.

All of our staff are experienced supervisors who have been specifically trained to work in youth party environments. Every team member holds a current Working With Children Check, providing parents and hosts with additional peace of mind.

Many of our staff have backgrounds in law enforcement and bring extensive experience in communication, conflict resolution and risk management. We also ensure our teams are mixed gender, allowing us to engage effectively with a diverse range of guests and situations.

Prior to every event, a detailed risk assessment is completed. This allows our staff to understand the unique requirements of the venue, guest demographics and any identified concerns. Comprehensive pre-event briefings ensure our team arrives prepared and informed.

Our approach is low-key, professional and family-focused. Guests are greeted warmly and respectfully. We are not interested in creating an intimidating atmosphere. Instead, we focus on building rapport, maintaining visibility and helping events run smoothly.

Communication is another key factor in event safety. Our teams maintain ongoing communication throughout the event and, when required, liaise directly with Victoria Police and emergency services to ensure any concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.

Professional security is not simply about responding to incidents. It is about creating an environment where incidents are less likely to occur in the first place.

For hosts, parents and event organisers, that means greater confidence, reduced stress and the ability to focus on enjoying the event knowing an experienced team is helping keep everyone safe.

A message to hosts and parents planning parties and events:

Recently, a parent contacted us to provide security for an 18th birthday party. After conducting a full physical assessment of the venue and event, we agreed on a responsible approach to alcohol management to help ensure the safety of all guests.

A week later, we were informed that the plan had changed - alcohol would be made freely available with no limits, and security would simply “step in if fights broke out.”

Unfortunately, if that is the expectation, we cannot assist.

Our priority is providing a safe environment for our staff, guests, and everyone attending the event. Hosts also have a duty of care to ensure their event is managed responsibly.

Security should never be treated as a “clean up crew” for preventable situations caused by poor planning or irresponsible alcohol service.

We are committed to helping you create a safe, professional, and enjoyable event -not a disaster waiting to happen.

If you want your event to finish at the scheduled time instead of being shut down early, proactive safety, respectful crowd management, and experienced staff who help prevent problems before they start, we’re here to help.

☕ Speed Safety – Coffee & a Yarn

Got a safety question you’ve been meaning to ask? Come grab a coffee and have a relaxed chat ☕

I’m running some casual “speed safety” sessions—think speed dating, but for real-life safety tips. You’ll get a 10-minute one-on-one with me where you can ask anything safety-related in a friendly, no-pressure space.

We can chat about things like:
• Youth party safety (alcohol, compliance, looking after young people)
• Personal safety (at home or out—like why not to deadlock doors from the inside or how to protect yourself from drink spiking)
• Safety tips for mature-aged clients (like safer ways to access your money)
• Keeping your home secure while you’re away (simple ways to make it look lived in)
• Event safety for weddings, funerals & gatherings (when you might need professional security)
• Or anything else that’s on your mind

No question is too small—this is your chance to get practical advice tailored to you.

A bit of perspective too—despite what people sometimes say about safety concerns in remote areas, when I was in Katherine NT supporting communities, it really wasn’t any different to anywhere else. No matter where you live, situational awareness is key. If we stay aware of our surroundings, we can reduce risk. It’s something that was drilled into me as a rookie cop back in 1989—and it’s exactly why I’m starting these regular coffee & yarn catch-ups.

👉 Just a heads-up: it’s a casual catch-up, so everyone grabs their own coffee.

Come along, have a yarn, and walk away feeling a bit more confident about your safety 💬

• Safe as Houses Melbourne -
Security While You’re Away 🏡✈️

In 2006 I launched my security firm in Melbourne,
just after leaving Victoria Police.

My kids ( now adults ) are also part of the team of experienced staff that work within the company.

The services that we provide are all things family - weddings, parties, funerals ( yes!) and the list goes on
However as a result of many enquiries from residents that don’t always have friends/ family to rely on - we have now another family support service - called ‘Safe as Houses’

Imagine having someone you can trust to look after your home while you travel…

🧭 Police-checked
🧭Security endorsed
🧭Reliable and experienced
🧭Relevant Insurance

We can help with:
• Watering your plants 🌿
• Bringing bins in and out
• Collecting your mail
• Feeding and playing with your pets
• Turn on lights, TV, or stereo to give your house the appearance of an occupied premises
• Even taking your car for a short drive to keep things running smoothly

…and that’s just the start.

Everyone’s needs are different - tell us what you’d like, and we’ll tailor a service to suit you, all at an affordable rate.

Enjoy your time away knowing everything at home is taken care of.

Parent helpers can make or break a party -

As the host - only you have the power

Preparation-
Despite all my planning, preparation, and assessment of your home, I can’t make the host do what I need to keep everyone safe at your child’s event.
I can’t force you to:
· Cap guests at 100.
· Sort them alphabetically.
· Sign & return my disclaimer on time, so my security team can attend legally & work safely.

Arrival-
On the night, I can’t make you supply what we agreed for swift, safe guest entry:
*Adequate lighting.
*A coherent guest list.
*Sober helpers

Success -

But when you do have a plan and support security the event is an amazing success - just like the event a few weeks ago- a huge success for a difficult age group ( 15 years) and credit to the police for a few drive bys 🙂

So this is a shout out to all parents that spend the time planning a great event for their child and ensuring all the guest that attend your home are safe - well done 👍🏾

Only you have the power to make this happen.

FAMILY HOME PARTIES: AFFORDABLE..BUT NOT ALWAYS THE SAFEST OPTION

Balconies, Swimming Pools, Trampolines, “Anything Goes” Environments

Stop. Assess. Secure.

The last 12 months we have seen an increase in parties within the family home . Combination of cost of living and also the lack of public venues available

During the last year there has been various events where balconies that are packed with people collapse

ABC Newshttps://www.abc.net.auTeenagers treated in hospital after balcony collapse during house party ...

Several guests fell more than two metres – many sustaining injuries.

I have also observed first hand injuries from guests that have jumped into swimming pools or on a trampoline ( despite ‘flagging’ to parents the risks) which have left injuries to the guest - normally broken bones or head injuries.

When I conduct a Safety Assessment on a prospective party property, I will establish whether or not your venue is safe.
Based on my experience, I strongly discourage parties where balconies, pools and trampolines are located, particularly when they are alcohol affected.

We’ve learnt the (very) hard way that these hazards can add issues to parties and increase the risk of injury.
We know that young people have a tendency to skylark and ‘show off’
Diving into pools, back flipping on trampolines
and hanging off the sides of balconies
Recently having to assist a young female that had fallen out of the trampoline and hitting her head on a rock, subsequently requiring ambulance attendance.

Lethal Cocktail
Most Family homes are not purpose built for large parties, balconies are not designed or made to withstand dozens of bouncing bodies.

Future
Most issues and injuries can be prevented if safety assessments are conducted.

As a reminder it is the host that is required to provide a duty of care
