Fitzroy Social & Sporting Club The Fitzroy Social and Sporting Club is a fantastic way to catch up with all your friends, meet locals and get great discounts on a wide range of events...

Founded in 1989 by Dave & Glenda Scott of the Rose Hotel, The Fitzroy Social & Sporting Club is a unique organisation that promotes the importance of community by providing a friendly environment, inclusive and welcoming for all. Over the years we have held a variety of events; AFL/VFL footy days, fishing trips, ski weekends, country race days, ten pin bowling, theatre nights, grape grazing, beer

grazing, Christmas parties, golf days and many, many street parties. We also support a wonderful cricket team that has been a part of the Yarra Pub Cricket Competition for over 25 years. We have proudly fostered the spirit of fundraising for our local community, donating to Fitzroy Primary School, Fitzroy Toy Library, East West Childcare, Outdoors Inc., St Mary’s House of Welcome & more……
Our future is truly exciting, and we would love you to be a part of it! Executive Committee

Dear Members and Friends,

Following a turnout of a dozen club members at our committee meeting on Tuesday the 10th of May, we are pleased to report that we have filled most of the executive committee roles.

Club President role has been revised to Chairperson and we welcome on board Vanessa Edmonds.
The role of Treasurer is still to be confirmed with Vicky Mann to stay on in the interim.
Lisa Campton will fill a newly created Social media/Marketing role.
Gayle Ilievski will continue in the role of Secretary.
General committee members include: Bob Dalla Rosa, Phil Giali, Rose Chiodo, Ruth Goonan, Dennis Redmond, Colin Mahon and Peter Glover.

The full minutes of the meeting are available upon request and we look forward to keeping you updated on our upcoming events.

What we need from our members now, is some feedback and suggestions regarding where you would like our monthly Friday Night Drinks to be held. During the past year, the Friday Night Drinks have been held at a rotation of local pubs including The Birmingham Hotel, the Royal Derby, The Commercial Club and the Brandon Hotel. Do you like the variety or would you like the same venue every month?Should we bring back the Rose as a venue? Feel free to let us know via email or vote via our FSSC page.

Thank you everyone again for all your support.

Members and Friends,

Some very important information regarding the future of the Fitzroy Social & Sporting Club.

Further to my earlier message regarding my resignation as President and the yet to be filled roles of Vice-President and Treasurer on the Executive Committee of the Social Club... We are asking as many members as possible to come to the next FSSC General Meeting at 7 pm on Tuesday 10 May 2016 at the Commercial Club Hotel to help fill these roles and to keep this great club alive. Support from our members is vital.

The very saddening reality is ... if we do not fill these positions the club will be forced to wind up. Keeping in mind that the Social Club is a legacy that we took on from the Scott and then the Dwyer Families, I believe that it would be a terrible loss to our community should the Social Club have to end.

To make these roles more accessible and to make running the club viable for this year, the options that we have come up with to reduce the workload of the committee are; to limit meetings to only four a year and to cut the number of events to only a couple a year, i.e. Beer grazing, Christmas in July and of course monthly Friday Night Drinks.

Even if you are unable to take on an executive role, new general committee members are also always welcomed, so come along and support the club of which we are so proud to be a part!

Thank you for all your support,

Brigitte Belleville

The FSSC AGM was held last Tuesday 5 April 2016.
Brigitte is unable to continue in the role of President and is resigning. Shae and Vicky are unable to continue in the roles of Vice President and Treasurer.
We did not receive any nominations for these positions. If we do not fill these positions, the club will be forced to wind up.
However, an option is to reduce the workload of the committe by having only 4 meetings a year and cutting the number of events to only a couple a year, i.e. Beer grazing, christmas in July.
We need members to come to the next general meeting at 7pm on Tuesday 10 May 2016 at the Commercial Hotel to fill one these roles and keep this great club alive.
