We're getting ready to open the doors at Wombat's Den.
For a while now, we have been working on turning a pretty special part of Gembrook into something we can share with other people.
Set on around 35 acres adjoining Bunyip State Park, Wombat's Den is surrounded by bushland, walking tracks, a rainforest creek and considerably more wildlife than seems reasonable to encounter before breakfast!
There are three cabins, each offering a slightly different kind of stay, but for us Wombat's Den has always been about more than simply having somewhere to sleep.
It's about slow mornings watching the mist lift from the lake. Wandering through the bush and hearing a lyrebird somewhere ahead of you. Spotting wallabies, wombats and the occasional koala. Heading out to explore Gembrook and the surrounding ranges, then coming back to a warm cabin at the end of the day.
We're also working with some wonderful local people and businesses to create experiences around food, nature and this very special part of Victoria, with plenty more still to come.
After a lot of work behind the scenes, there's not much left on our list now. It's starting to feel very real, and we can't wait to share it with you.
The Den is nearly ready. We'll be welcoming our first guests from 1 September.
