One of the best things about living in a thriving farming community is the approach to sourcing local & sustainable foods 🥦🌽🐄

📸 Snaps from earlier this month when we helped muster our neighbours cattle - and picked up our steer.

While some may find it confronting, knowing the meat we share with our friends and family has been raised & fed on over 80+ acres of free range land (with a small herd of 40 other cows), is something we’re grateful for every time we eat.

We were able to muster the steer and deliver it to our local home butcher in a calm and peaceful way. From here, the butcher gave the steer its last few days in a wide open paddock with the greenest grass & grain I’ve ever seen - then processed the steer with respect & care. All this happens within a 15km radius… from next doors paddock, to the butcher, and then back home to our (now fully stocked) freezer.

We’ve been committed to wasting as little of the beast as possible, in acknowledgement and appreciation for this gift. We’re experimenting with recipes to use all the different cuts of meat, have been making our own nutrient dense Iron+ mince & sausages (Inspired by iykyk), and have just finished making our own tallow.

Knowing where our meat comes from shouldn’t be a privilege, but it’s one that we’re forever grateful for.
