Our Story

Mark and I (Sarah) and our family moved to Tasmania from Northern NSW in 2016 to follow our dream of a beautiful, natural place to raise our family. We’ve started from scratch on our place. 50 acres of bushland alongside the very scenic Franklin Rivulet at Harford, Tasmania (just south of Port Sorell).

We believe in supporting our local community, buying local, seasonal and encouraging farmers to produce food naturally, sustainably and more so regeneratively. We believe farmers should be paid accordingly for their efforts. If farming is not profitable it is not sustainable and if it doesn’t consider the future of our resources, soil, nutrition and animal welfare it won’t be profitable long term. Our future food production and human and planetary health will depend on these things. We believe the food we eat should be of the highest nutrition, quality and chemical free - you get what you pay for and you are what you consume and absorb. To quote a good friend of ours ‘cheap food is not our right – quality food is’. To consume nutritionally dense food will only improve our health, as a result lowering our medical and health expenses throughout our lives. For our own pleasure and our children? We are a work in progress ourselves, on our own journey toward our ideals - my motto – ‘just put more of the good stuff in! – foods, thoughts and actions! We are a Christian family who consider Faith, family, health, fabulous food, fellowship and fun (to use lots of ‘Farm on Franklin F words) paramount to our foundational activities and attitudes. It is with this in mind that we are excited to share our place, produce, products and our journey, with our community and beyond. So I’ve spent the past 10 months growing a bundle instead of a garden, and though we had no ground prepared boy 2 insisted (and rightly so) on planting seeds late last year. They grew into lovely lush seedlings. He sold a few at a Christmas market and to some of our campers, but we had heaps left. We had no ground prepared so thought we’d give this a go!
We used the cheapest potting mix money could buy but then foliar sprayed with all the good stuff!
We’ve since harvested heaps of lettuce and perpetual spinach, the tomatoes have FINALLY started to ripen, and the marigolds are like looking amazing balls of sunshine, sunrise and sunset happiness! I’d definitely recommend this if you have little space, or like us, just needed a quick result!

Hi folks. Our campground Farm on Franklin is open again and we have sites available for this long weekend after several late notice cancellations. This is a family friendly campground for self-contained (off-grid) campers/caravans just 15 minutes from Port Sorell and half hour east of Devonport. Direct bookings (message details to me) or online via Hipcamp. Dogs welcome.

Farm on Franklin
Position duties: looking for someone to look after chooks, ducks, cat and a dog, and be a friendly face/point of contact for campers.
We will be the main contact remotely.
You’ll need to have your own van with own toilet/shower.
We’re not looking for housesitters.
We are off-grid but can supply power and water.
You are welcome to use kayaks and fishing gear.
You’ll need to sign a waiver.
This is a beautiful spot overlooking an estuary. Very central to the north of Tasmania.15 mins to Port Sorell and Narawntapu NP. 25 mins to Devonport, and 1hr to Launceston (plus loads of other great places!).
