I had the most beautiful weekend with my grandchildren. We had a day trip to gorgeous Bruny Island. They were so excited to catch the ferry! I had forgotten how lovely Adventure Bay is even on the second last day of winter. Of course the water was freezing but the kids still loved being chased by the waves.

So the unbelievable happened- I won the Short Contemporary Ruby. A huge congratulations to my fellow nominees Amy Andrews and Ally Blake, who are great writers and great friends. A huge thank you to Nas Dean, my fabulous assistant- I would be lost without you. And my back up brain and brainstorming buddy Rachel Bailey. I’m so overwhelmed I can barely process it yet.

I ticked a box yesterday that I’ve wanted to tick for the whole 40 years we have lived in Tasmania. I finally went to the Bream Creek Show. It’s an agricultural show and so wonderful for kids. We took our three grandchildren and had the best day. I waited in line for over an hour to get Willow’s face painted but it was so worth it. We met the lovely artist ( not just a hobbyist face painter but a fine arts graduate!) Jody Chivers. We chatted about the creative process and how we love creative flow. The kids had pony rides, patted and cuddled all sorts of animals and played on a haystack. I was a bit nervous near the snake handler but the kids were unfazed!
