Sunday will see very strong winds, with showers and heavy rain developing through the day and continuing into the night, before a cool change arrives later. Snow at times about the peaks during the day, possibly some decent snow at Hotham in the daylight before warming later. The rain will be heavy and it will damage the cover. The sooner the rain turns to snow Sunday night/Monday morning the better. At the moment I'm seeing around midnight in Victorian resorts and maybe 2am in NSW, earlier means more snow, later means less snow.

We should see heavy snowfalls with blizzard conditions in the early hours of Monday. If the cold change comes late we may only see around 10-15cm by morning, but if it stays on track then we could see 30cm+ of new snow by daybreak.

The heavy snowfalls and blizzard conditions will continue Monday morning and ease a little later. Then light snow showers Tuesday and then snowfalls increasing Wednesday as another front moves through the mountains. Winds will remain strong during this time, so it's likely we will see some lifts on hold at times Sunday to Thursday. 🐸

Nobody breathe. Nobody move a muscle. Not one. DO NOT JINX THIS FORECAST. πŸ˜±πŸ™€πŸ€žπŸ½

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday going to be wild in the Aussie mountains and as usual will start with RAIN (Sunday). Freezing levels remain high (1600 - 1700) and we'll need them to drop a bit. It's been a challenging and temperamental season for forecasts but August looks like it's going to come good, even with modelling across numerous sites changing on the daily.

It's all in the details - forecast altitude, freezing elevation, snow, rain, temperatures. You'll find them for each resort updated twice daily here: www.snowsbest.com/snow-forecast

The Grasshopper's Australian Forecast – Winter Keeps Chipping Away with More Snow & Snowmaking on the Way

Published early Sunday, 26th July 2026

"Sunday and Monday will be mostly fine as a ridge of high pressure swings past, and with improved snow conditions and continued snowmaking overnight, it’ll be a great time to head up.

The next storm system crosses during Tuesday and Wednesday, giving us a top-up of around 5-15cm. Snowfall and northwest winds build during Tuesday, although it turns wet on the lower slopes before a cold southwest change overnight whips through, bringing a burst of snow to low levels....."

It should be a little wet to start, but don't be too worried. Blizzarding overnight with a nice fresh cover by the morning. Gale force winds will be an issue tomorrow with snowfalls reaching down to 1000m and below at times. Make sure you have the chains ready to put on if heading to the resorts tomorrow (pack a tarp to lay on and an old pair of gloves). Check the Snowatch forecasts for more detail and snowfall numbers.πŸΈβ„β„β„
