Paper Jam Zine Fair yesterday was wonderful! Such a great vibe. Did you know that this was the THIRD new zine fair in Lutruwita/Tasmania in 2026? After many years of Small Press Zine Fair being the only one we suddenly have a bunch of eager people wanting to run their own fairs! It’s amazing!!
We had
1) Zine Fair at Sawtooth ARI in Launny run by Joee and friends.
2) State Library & Archives Zine Fair in Nipaluna/Hobart run by Rachel Edwards and the staff.
3) Paper Jam at Kickstart Arts run by B and Jo.
4) October 17th is the tentative date for the 14th annual SMALL PRESS ZINE FAIR at the Town Hall (pending grant $ to pay for the venue) run by Miranda and Josh

There’s been many zine making workshops as well which is TOTALLY great, but there is something special about an actual fair which really builds community connections alongside regular meetup groups which have popped up such the
1) Southern Zine Club
2) Drink and draw (which has popped up again!)
3) Hobart Collage Club

We’d love to hear about ANY Zinesters around the state who might be interested in getting a zine fair off the ground in some regional places. if the stars align we might be able to put you in touch with some other Zinesters who might be able to help, or some potential venue ideas for you to pursue? Who knows! Or someone else might see your comment here and connect with you.

Maybe Queenstown? Maybe Penguin? Who knows??

Bravo to the .archives.tas for their FIRST ANNUAL ZINE FAIR! Super lovely event with lots of attendees and more than 30 stall holders (quite a turnout for the first zine fair organised by the library!!)

Jon was a loved and respected part of our zine community and gave so much. A wonderful artist, a funny fu**er, top notch human.

Award-winning Tasmanian cartoonist Jon Kudelka has died.

In a post on social media, his family says Kudelka, who drew cartoons for the Hobart Mercury, the Australian and the Saturday paper died in Hobart on Sunday aged 53.

Kudelka was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, in early 2024.
