“I have found it difficult to find the words for just how inimitable the experience is at Ben Huon Manor. What differentiates a luxury escape and one that you will remember for a lifetime, is the detail - and Ben Huon is BIG on detail.

James, the extraordinary host, is the heart and soul behind the home. Going above and beyond to share his love and enthusiasm to every detail. From the museum worthy oil portraits, to the genuine antique furnishings, hand built staircases, manicured gardens and lawns, polished silverware and heated flooring throughout, the attention to the finer things is astounding. Bathrooms are even adorned with monogrammed towels, fluffy robes and a suite of Aesop skin care. Truly a property worthy of featuring in the likes of Architectural Digest or the Local Project.

This is an absolute haven for any self proclaimed foodie. The culinary expertise of James is apparent. From the charcuterie board with artisan deli meats paired with the finest cheeses to a chefs kitchen equipped with an AGA-esque range cooker, gourmet staples like Pepe Saya butter, Meredith dairy goats cheese, fresh eggs from the property and fine British crockery. This is the stuff of dreams for any home cook or chef alike.

The hospitality, warmth and grandeur of Ben Huon Manor is second to none and makes this a must stay for anyone! A very special place. I can’t wait to visit again soon.”

Ben Huon Manor is a natural fit for commercial shoots and filmmakers. Set in the Southern Highlands, the property offers genuine heritage character without the need for heavy set dressing. Its Georgian Gothic architecture, textured interiors and surrounding gardens give footage depth and atmosphere that feels considered rather than constructed.

The spaces work equally well for fashion and brand campaigns, narrative work, and still or moving content, where natural light, stone and garden views do much of the storytelling. Flexible enough for both tight controlled shots and wider establishing sequences, the manor remains quiet and private - a real advantage when working with talent, crew and tight timelines. We were thrilled to see the behind-the-scenes images from Deerstalker Pictures, with the Manor serving as the backdrop for Blood & Betrayal – Dracula: The Musical, sponsored by Watcher of the Realms.

We’d like to take a moment to thank everyone involved in the organisation of Sandie’s Celebration of Life. Thank you to the wonderful friends and family who travelled from near and far to be with us and honour her memory. It was a beautiful sunny day at Ben Huon Manor, and we feel so grateful to have shared it together. After dreaming of and constructing Ben Huon Manor together, it was the perfect place for her farewell.

In memoriam: Sandra Lee Salmond (Sandie).

Beloved wife of James, co-creator and designer of Ben Huon Manor, loving mother, mother-in-law, devoted grandmother, and greatly loved sister.

After an extraordinary 27-year fight against the effects of a brain tumour, beautiful Sandie passed away peacefully on the evening of 18 July 2026. We said our final goodbyes to her at Ben Huon Manor, the home she so carefully designed and built with James.

While our hearts are heavy, we carry forward a simple lesson she lived every day: if you think of a compliment - say it. Everyone could use a little more encouragement.

Sandie and James dreamt of and built Ben Huon Manor together. She would work as a hairdresser in Sydney by day, then drive to Robertson and, often by headlight, carefully hand-carve the exterior brick lines so they matched the interior perfectly. That same care and love for the unique lives on in every wedding and celebration held here.

We’re deeply grateful for every guest who has enjoyed this special place she helped create.
