After many design adventures, it’s time for the next chapter in our eco living adventure. Since our Eco Dream Home experience, we have focused on the realities and struggles of home ownership an adult modern society. Where our parents and grandparents bought nice houses on land enough for a front yard AND backyard, those coming of age now face the prospect of their first home costing well over $500,000 and in major cities, closer to $1,000,000. With wage stagnation and a realisation that life work balance is more important than a crippling mortgage, the concept of reducing the costs of living, so life can become worth living is gaining momentum. The tiny house movement is the best example of a solution that can achieve a drastic reduction in living expenses.
Using the self-sufficient concepts and experiences we have gained through 30 years of designing sustainable architecture, we have designed a pair of tiny houses that will be completely off grid and able to ‘park’ in places that a conventional house simply could not fit.
We have researched tiny houses extensively and have included many of the best ideas into our designs. There is an 8.1 metre x 2.4 metre main house and a 6 metre x 2.4 metre ‘Pod’. The tiny homes can be configured in a variety of ways depending on the site and aspect. We have shown them in an ‘L’ shape where the covered decks connect for a real indoor/outdoor space.
I will go into the design and construction more in the coming weeks, and be videoing each day of construction of the ‘Pod’ as we expect to finish the build in 10 days start to finish. We will then be offering the plans and specifications, so that others can join the Tiny Home revolution. Stay Tuned!
