Zonta Club Chittagong observed the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations Day on 24th October 2020, at the 4th Business Meeting.
The Guest Speaker for the occasion was Madhuri Banerjee, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Chittagong.
She congratulated the Zontians for observing this special day amid the unprecedented pandemic & their active involvement in empowering women for advancing economic growth. She highlighted on issues such as:
- The significance of UN; it’s Charter, initiatives and aims to listen to global public with focus on youth and the marginalized society
- Missions and plans on sustainable innovation
- 17 interconnected SDG and realization of rights
- UN in partnership with government for more resilient equal society.
- Covid-19 crisis in socioeconomic welfare & rebuilding economy to better health hygiene.
- Violence and abuse of children adolescents and women around the world.
- Combating climate change & disaster management
The occasion was graced by the presence of District Parliamentarian and Charter President Dilruba Ahmed, President Mehbuba Ahsan, Imm. Past President & past Area Director Yasmeen Khan, Past Presidents , EC and Members of Zonta Club of Chittagong.
President Mehbuba discussed the new projects and goals for the biennium.
Chairman UN Committee Farahnaz Qaiyum also shared information on Webinar for International Day of the Girl 2020 theme: ‘My Voice, Our Equal Future’ organized by UNICEF Nepal. She also mentioned the innovative solutions to critical topic related to the continuity of Education, Skill building, Blended learning and to support girls to accelerate social change. Farahnaz presented slideshows specially to commemorate this special event 75th Anniversary of UN and her visit to the Palais de Nations, the UN office in Geneva!
President adjourned the Meetings with her concluding remarks related to Zonta & it’s status with UN.
