Staying in a hostel can be great fun but at the same time, as a student, you might encounter certain challenging situations when you have to manage everything on your own. Over time, you will certainly adapt to this new way of life but in the initial phase, a few useful tips and tricks can make hostel life much easier. Here is a list of such tips given below:

Make your room cozy

Decorate your room in a way that will make you feel at home because this is the place where you will be sleeping at night, spending time after a tiring day and waking up in the morning.

Befriend people

Extend a hand of friendship with other students staying in the hostel. Get to know them so that you will have friends to hang out with. In this way, you won’t feel homesick.

Learn to run your errands

Staying in a hostel is the perfect opportunity for transforming into a responsible adult. Whether it is washing your clothes or cleaning up your room, you start running the basic errands and feel confident about yourself.

Be polite to the hostel staff

Be friendly with the team of people who manage the hostel. Strike up a casual conversation with them and ask about their well-being so that they reciprocate the same and you feel that you have people to take care of you.

Hostel food is different from home food

While the college canteens try their best to deliver homely meals, but those are not the same as a comfort meal cooked by your mom at home. There might be days when you will get an upset stomach after a meal. Do not get stressed because it is your body’s way of responding to lifestyle changes.

Sharing is caring

You will come across people in the hostel who might use your things even without your permission. While sharing your things with your friends is a good thing but if it becomes a standard ritual, you must know when to say no.

Understand the people around you

You must observe people around you – the way they behave and react to situations. It is not mandatory that you should become friends with every person in the hostel. Maintain a safe distance from negative people.

Learn to sleep with noise

It is not necessary that your sleep patterns will be aligned with your roommates. If your roommate happens to be an extrovert or a music lover, you must know how to sleep with some constant sound playing in the background. It is a hostel room which is a shared property and hence, you cannot ask your roommates to be silent because you need your sleep.

It can be concluded that learning to stay in a hostel peacefully and comfortably is all about adjustment. Moving to a hostel room, leaving the comfort of your home behind, could be a daunting task at the beginning. However, with the help of friends who can pull you out from the envelope of boredom, you can have the best time of your life while transitioning into an adult and learning to enjoy life at the same time.
