🌿 Big news for nature tourism in Brazil!
This week, during WTM Latin America 2025, the TOVS (National Association for Wildlife Watching Tourism) was officially launched. The association brings together professionals and organizations dedicated to responsible and sustainable wildlife observation — including birdwatching. 🐦🇧🇷

With support from Embratur and other national institutions, TOVS aims to strengthen the sector, promote best practices, and connect biodiversity conservation with local development.

We are proud of our association with Everton Miranda who is working diligently to complete his PhD on Harpy Eagles in the Matto Grosso region of Brazil. Everton's work focuses on understanding the Harpy Eagles’ role in the Amazon ecosystem, as well as improving the local community’s relationship with Harpy Eagles by demonstrating how eco-tourism can aide in local economic development. His study complements our work on Harpy Eagles and community-based conservation in Darien, Panama.

Everton sent us this incredible photograph, from his study site, which was captured by one of his camera traps. This is a female Harpy Eagle delivering a sub-adult Woolly Monkey (Lagothrix cana) to the nest. The Peregrine Fund wishes Everton all the very best in his PhD submission.
