Tumani coming together amongst the magic of Mababe.
A cathedral-like main area is taking shape to create the first spectacular moment on arrival in camp.
Sunrise and sunset moments from each tent have been tested to get positioning just so.
Getting to know the rhythm of the place and being blown away by the wildlife that’s welcomed us here: warthogs, impala, waterbuck, kudu, giraffe and elephant are daily companions as we continue this build on the river banks.

Tumani Tented Camp opens in June 2026 and we’re so looking forward to sharing this special addition.

Far from towns and artificial light, the stars settle sharply over the bush. The familiar arc of the Milky Way stretches across the deep navy night and the sounds of the wild carry effortlessly across open grasslands and winding river channels. It feels as though the constellations themselves have marked the spot for Tumani Tented Camp.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From June 2026 the camp will open its doors, inviting travellers to discover this remarkable region.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if they do, as night settles over Mababe and the fire burns low, they will drift back to their tents; some stepping inside beneath canvas, others climbing the short staircase to the star deck above. Whichever way they choose to tuck in for the night, it will be with the quiet satisfaction of a day spent exploring one of Botswana’s wildest places.

We need to start a series on animal hair dos, and this Hyena pup would surely top the charts. Bringing back the mohawk as he casually stretches out waiting for the matriarchs to return. This is a den not far from MmaTsebe, likely to have been originally created by an aardvark, the same very successful clan returns to this spot to bring new life year after year.

What a green season it has been. Not without its challenges for camps in the Delta and specifically in Khwai. The lyrics “bless the rains down in Africa” kept playing back of mind laced with some newfound irony. Over the past 2 months, Botswana has seen an incredible amount of rain. And for camps like MmaTsebe in Khwai this has given us plenty of reasons to rally, but equally has created new opportunities from unexplored game drive routes, to adaptations to camp including our tents and walkways going up on deck. We’ve had incredible support from our partner agents and fellow operators in Botswana, and it’s in times like these we’re reminded not only of mother nature’s unrelenting will, but also of our industry’s power to come together.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These rains and the way they have affected the Delta bodes well for a stunning season ahead, with the *actual* flood pending - Botswana will be alive with activity, thriving in what looks to be a year of plenty for wildlife.

Read our latest blog When the Water Comes Early to read about how we’ve been adapting to the rains at MmaTsebe.

We’re in the safari business...and naturally, we’re in the people business. Welcoming guests and creating memorable experiences in the bush but equally supporting a team from camp to the office - those that make this whole adventure possible. Kenny is one of MmaTsebe’s front of house members that has been working with the camp’s owners since the early 2000’s. His smile and warmth is pretty unmatched and we’ve been privileged to have him as one of the faces that greets guests on arrival at MmaTsebe. The animals we see on game drives are surely unforgettable, but we’d put good money on the bet that those who visit us remember our team just as fondly.

Walking safaris - a purposeful wander through the bush, taking in the details and sounds you don’t often appreciate from a game vehicle. Sometimes though, an adrenaline rush as you come across the world’s largest land animal - and this was one we had to be on foot to fully comprehend!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At Tumani Tented Camp, guests can experience Mababe through walking excursions as part of their stay. The openness of the landscape allows long views and easy strides, giving guests ample opportunity to enjoy the stillness or excitement of a walk on the wild side.

On a recent game drive, one of our guides Victor jokingly commented that the Wildebeest is considered amongst the “ugly five”. That seemed harsh, although of course their name directly translates to wild beast, reflecting how Dutch settlers perceived them - unfamiliar, heavy-fronted, slightly awkward animals. It’s beautiful moments like these however in which you have to refuse the connotation, with this sweet calf keeping pace with the herd within days of dropping. Quietly calling for the appeal of the wildebeest’s sentence under the “Ugly Five”...

Tumani’s design is that of a classic tented camp. And yet, off every guest’s veranda a staircase leads to something spectacular; a private star deck.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead of being reserved for a special sleep-out activity, the star deck is built into the accommodation itself; available whenever guests feel inclined to spend the night outdoors.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whether sleeping under the canvas or beneath a canopy of stars, the intention is the same; to keep guests as close to the rhythm of the bush as possible.
