The Lost Slavers of the Belizean Jungle 🇧🇿🌲
In 1865, the American Confederacy collapsed. But a group of die-hard southerners refused to surrender. Instead, they packed their bags and fled deep into the wilderness of British Honduras (now Belize).
Tucked away in the dense brush of Forest Home Village is a rotting, forgotten graveyard. It is the final resting place of exiles who tried—and failed—to rebuild their plantation-era dreams in the tropics.
Their sugar estates collapsed, disease took them out, and today, only a tiny, eerie patch of moss-covered tombstones remains—slowly being swallowed alive by the jungle. 🪦
This is a deeply controversial, completely off-the-beaten-track dark history rabbit hole.
🧐 Would you trek out here to find it, or is this a hard pass? Let me know in the comments!
