“The lock staff are SO nice.” It’s true! They are!
Very Canadian of them. 🇨🇦

They’re friendly, patient, helpful, happy to answer questions and, more often than not, they go out of their way to make folks feel comfortable if they’re a bit nervous or unsure. 💕And we’re incredibly grateful for that.

Once our guests head off on their own, knowing there are these lovely humans at every lock, ready with a smile, a bit of advice or an extra hand when it’s needed? That means a lot to us!

And judging by what we hear when our guests get back, it means a lot to them too. 😎 .

So, to all the Trent-Severn lock staff who help us out in so many ways all summer long - THANK YOU! ❤️

Seriously, where did summer go?
It feels like it just started, and now we’re at the end of August? 🤯

The good news is, we’re not done yet. We’ve got another month of houseboat season ahead of us, and we’re happy to say we’re fully booked for the rest of the season! 🎉 Thank you to all our amazing guests! 🎉

While 2026 is officially spoken for, bookings for 2027 are already underway.

We can tell you what a houseboat holiday is like all day long. Sometimes it’s better to let the people who actually did it do the talking. 😎

Some recent guest photos, along with a few things they had to say about their time on the water.

Of course, no trip is perfect. There are usually a few surprises, a bit of figuring-things-out and the odd thing that doesn’t go exactly according to plan.

But that’s part of it too. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks to our guests for sharing their experiences with us, the great and the maybe not-so-great moments. It’s all part of the adventure and makes for some pretty great stories overall. 😉.

Lately, we’ve been doing our best to notice the small things. Lately, when work feels a bit too loud and the to-do list gets ridiculous, we’ve been doing our best to notice the small things.

Sun on the water. ☀️
Cattails swaying in the breeze.
Light sparkling through the trees.
A tiny caterpillar wandering across our workspace. 🐛

None of it gets the work done.

But it does make the day feel a little lighter.

We don’t usually share events like this here, but this one is a little more personal.

Over the years, we’ve been lucky to have a number of Ukrainian families help us as we built H2O Getaways. Yuri and Natalia, in particular, have become good friends and a pretty important part of our story.

We’ve watched them work incredibly hard to build a life here, raise their family, learn English, help others, take on more jobs than seems reasonable, and somehow still remain two of the kindest and most joyful people we know.

They’ve also fed us extremely well along the way. 😊

So when Natalia asked if we could help spread the word about this Ukrainian Independence Day event, it was an easy yes.

Proceeds will help support people affected by the war in Ukraine who need treatment, rehabilitation and recovery support.

Just what we like to see: an empty dock. 😁
All four boats are out doing what they’re meant to do: getting people out on the water, into nature and off exploring somewhere new.
And our dock is going to stay that way for a while. We’re fully booked through September 23, with our 4-day getaways starting September 24.
Fall is a pretty great time to be on the Trent-Severn!
Cool nights, warm days and a quieter waterway.

One of the questions we get all the time: how big is the fridge onboard?
Short answer: bigger than a bar fridge, smaller than the one in your kitchen. Think apartment-size fridge with a separate freezer.

Plenty of room for your groceries, drinks and BBQ fixin’s, but perhaps leave the Costco-sized condiment collection at home. 😉

And you don’t necessarily need to pack every meal for the whole trip. There are places to top up your groceries in Frankford, Campbellford and Hastings, plus pubs and restaurants along the way if somebody decides they are officially on vacation and not cooking tonight.

Moral of the story is: you have options! 😄

Mr Healey has come a long way. 🛥️

It’s easy to show you the finished boat, the rooftop patio, comfortable interior and all the spaces ready for a week on the water.

The ugly-messy stage doesn’t make it onto Instagram quite as often, but sometimes it’s worth taking a quick look back to see how far we’ve come. 😎
