A great new change to help make all our kids safer!

Nova Scotia leads Canada with stronger child passenger safety laws

Halifax, NS- Child Safety Link, the children’s injury prevention program of IWK Health, applauds Nova Scotia for strengthening child passenger safety laws that will require children to remain in a rear-facing car seat until at least age two and remain in a harnessed car seat until a minimum age of four.

These changes will make Nova Scotia the first province or territory in Canada to establish these important age-based minimums in law.

The amendments will raise the minimum protections for young children travelling in vehicles, addressing two important areas that Child Safety Link and national injury prevention partners have recommended strengthening.

“We are very pleased that Nova Scotia is taking a leadership role in Canada by adding clear, age-based protections into law,” says Dr. Krista Jangaard, President and CEO of IWK Health. “These are meaningful changes that will better protect our youngest passengers, and we commend the Province for taking action.”

Child Safety Link would like to emphasize the following:

• Motor vehicle collisions continue to be a leading cause of death for children in Canada. Car seats save lives.
All children should be correctly buckled in the right car seat or booster seat on every ride, in every vehicle.

• There is a greater risk of injury when a child rides forward-facing before age two or in a booster seat before age four.

• Most families can follow these new requirements using the seats they already own.
Car seat design and engineering have evolved significantly over the last 15 years, allowing children to remain rear-facing and harnessed for longer. The new requirements better align the law with both current evidence and advances in car seat design.

• A 2024 research study led by Dalhousie University and Child Safety Link assessed 1005 child passengers in Nova Scotia, and found that 81% of car seats and booster seats had at least one error that could affect safety.

“Strengthening the law is an important step, but our research shows that families also need clear education, knowledgeable support, and access to safe seats,” says Katherine Hutka, Health Promotion Specialist with Child Safety Link, the injury prevention program at IWK Health. “The goal is not only for families to understand the new requirements, but to be able to use and install their child’s seat correctly to prevent injury.”

Child Safety Link has supported Nova Scotia families and the professionals who work with them for more than two decades through education, resources, professional training and direct support. As the new requirements are implemented, Child Safety Link encourages investment in public education, professional capacity and equitable access to child passenger safety support to help ensure families can understand and follow the new requirements correctly.

Child Safety Link continues to recommend that children remain in each stage for as long as they safely fit within the height and weight limits of their current seat. Many children can remain rear-facing beyond age two, and children should continue using a car seat with a five-point harness until they are ready to use a booster correctly, typically between the ages of 5 and 7.

“Minimum legal requirements are a starting point, not necessarily the point when a child should move to the next stage. For families, the message is simple: don’t rush the transition,” says Hutka.

Parents and caregivers with questions can call Child Safety Link’s car seat support line at 1-866-288-1388 (toll-free in Atlantic Canada) or 902-470-7036, or email [email protected].

🎉IT’S HERE! ONLINE RESERVATIONS ARE NOW LIVE!🎉

Okay, we can finally say it — online reservations are officially live!

When we announced back in August that we were working on online reservations, we said we were aiming for September, and we’ve officially made it happen!

Things have gotten a LOT busier for us over the last year, and between keeping up with cleaning between rentals, safety inspections, answering messages, coordinating deliveries and pickups, and everything else that goes on behind the scenes, we knew it was time to make the reservation process a little easier.

So instead of having to message us back and forth to figure out what’s available, you can now do it all directly through our website!

You can:

• Browse our available baby gear
• Choose the items you’re looking for
• Select your rental dates
• See what’s available during those dates
• Submit your reservation request online

We’re really hoping this makes things easier for everyone — especially if you’re planning ahead and want to see what’s available before reaching out.

That said, we’re still here! If you’re not sure what you need, have questions about an item, or want some help figuring out what would work best for your family, you can always message us. We’re more than happy to help.

You reserve online through our website now!

And, as always, thank you so much to everyone who has supported Cradle&Carry. When Evan and I started this, we had no idea how many families we’d eventually get to help, and watching this little business grow has been pretty incredible.

We’re excited to keep making things easier for parents — one rental at a time.

Happy renting! 🥰

50 FIVE-STAR GOOGLE REVIEWS!

When Evan and I started Cradle&Carry, we honestly had no idea what to expect. We knew we wanted to create something that would make life a little easier for new parents, but we never expected to receive this positive a response! We are so grateful that so many families gave us a chance and trust us with their little ones.

We’ve officially reached our first 50 five-star reviews, and I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you.

Thank you to everyone who has rented from us, recommended us to a friend, shared one of our posts, sent someone our way, or has taken the time to leave a review. Every single one means a lot to us, especially as a small local business.

We’re really proud of what Cradle&Carry is becoming, and it’s pretty amazing to look back at how far we’ve come.

Here’s to the next 50!

Thank you for supporting our little business. 🤍

🎉 Announcement: Online Reservations Are Coming Soon! 🎉

Wow... where do we even start?

When Evan and I launched Cradle&Carry, we honestly had no idea how much support we'd receive. We were hoping to help a few local families, and instead we've been absolutely blown away by the response.

First of all, thank you. ❤️ Every rental, every recommendation, every share, every kind message... it truly means the world to us.

One thing we've learned over the last year is that trying to coordinate every booking through email has become a full-time job in itself! 😂 We do our best to respond as quickly as we can, but between work, family, and running Cradle&Carry, it's getting harder and harder to keep up with all of the requests we receive each day.

So... we're excited to share that online reservations are coming!

Soon you'll be able to:
🤍 Browse our collection
📅 Select your rental dates
✅ Instantly see what's available
🛒 Reserve your baby gear online in just a few clicks

We're putting the finishing touches on everything now and are aiming for an early September launch.

Thank you again for supporting our little family business. We can't make the rental process even easier for everyone. We genuinely couldn't be doing this without you, and we're so excited for what's next!

Ashley & Evan 🤍

✨ This Stage: Sitting Up & Seeing the World ✨

One day you prop them up with a pillow...

The next, they're sitting on their own, reaching for toys, laughing at everything, and taking in the world from a whole new perspective.

It feels like such a small milestone, but it's the beginning of so much.

Suddenly they're watching the dog walk by, reaching for your coffee mug, "helping" fold laundry, and smiling at everyone who walks into the room.

It's amazing how much their little personalities start to shine once they can sit up and really take everything in.

These are the days filled with curious eyes, contagious giggles, and wondering what they'll discover next.

❤️ What was your baby's favourite thing to do once they learned to sit independently?

There really is no such thing as a "bad" baby. ❤️

I still hear people say things like, "Oh, they're such a good baby," and honestly, I think we put way too much pressure on ourselves (and our babies!).

Some babies sleep through the night.

Some wake up every couple of hours.

Some are happy to nap in their bassinet.

Some would rather be glued to you 24/7.

Some love the car.

Some scream the second they're buckled in.

That doesn't make them "good" or "bad."

They're just babies.

They're learning everything for the very first time, and every single one of them is different.

If your baby only contact naps, wakes the second you sit down, and has declared war on their bassinet... you're not doing anything wrong. 😂

And if your baby sleeps well? That's okay too! It doesn't make you a better parent, and it doesn't mean you've "figured it out."

Every baby is different.

Every family is different.

And every stage passes so much faster than it feels like it will.

❤️ Which one on the "good baby" side made you laugh because it describes your little one perfectly?

✨ This Stage: Learning to Roll ✨

One day you set them down on the play mat... and suddenly they're halfway across the room!

This stage is full of firsts. First rolls, first laughs, lots of tummy time, grabbing absolutely everything within reach, and those huge gummy smiles when they figure something new out.

It's also when babies start becoming curious about the world around them. Every day seems to bring a new little milestone.

As exciting as it is, it can also be a reminder of just how quickly they grow. It feels like yesterday you were bringing them home.

Whatever stage you're in right now, I hope you're taking lots of photos (and giving yourself plenty of grace too ❤️).

What's your favourite milestone from this stage? I'd love to hear everyone's memories!

✨ This Stage: The Newborn Bubble ✨

Those first few weeks are a blur of tiny yawns, middle-of-the-night feeds, contact naps, and wondering how someone so little can completely change your world.

It's a season of firsts.

The first smile.
The first stretch.
The first time they fall asleep on your chest.

And before you know it, the bassinet is packed away, the newborn clothes no longer fit, and you're wondering where the time went.

If you're in this stage right now, try to soak it in—even on the hard days. They really do grow faster than anyone warns you.

At Cradle&Carry, we love helping families through each season of parenthood by providing premium baby gear when you need it most. Because every stage is different, and your baby gear should fit the stage you're in.

🤍 What do you miss most about the newborn days?
