Apparently it’s awards season around here! 🥳

I know we JUST asked you to take a minute to vote for Wilder Lodge in the Canadian Choice Awards, and now the Columbia Valley Chamber Business Excellence Awards nominations are open too!

This one feels particularly special because it’s right here at home 🫶🏻

These awards celebrate the businesses, organizations and people who make the Columbia Valley such an incredible place to live, work and visit. Whether or not your nomination is for us, I really encourage you to take a few minutes and recognize the local businesses you love and appreciate.

WE HAVE BEEN NOMINATED! 💃🏼

We’re incredibly excited to share that Wilder Lodge is officially a 2026 Canadian Choice Award nominee in the Bed & Breakfast category! 🥹

After celebrating our first full year operating as a Bed & Breakfast, this feels like a pretty special way to head into year two.

Our first year has been exciting, rewarding, exhausting, challenging and full of learning. We’ve poured an enormous amount of ourselves into Wilder Lodge, and while we’re still very much at the beginning of this journey, we hope we’re building a strong foundation for a business that will be part of this community for many years to come 🧡 None of this would have been possible without YOU!

The guests who have chosen to stay with us, returned for another visit, recommended us to friends and family, and taken the time to leave us such thoughtful reviews… Thank you 🙏🏻

ROMANTIC PICNIC FOR TWO 🧡

We loved making this Italian inspired picnic basket for a couple of honeymooners this week!

• Sourdough focaccia sandwiches with cucumber, havarti, rosemary ham, and garden grown spinach.
• Fresh baked raspberry white chocolate sourdough scones
• Pasta salad with arugula, sundried tomatoes, Parmesan and pesto.
• Mixed green salad with our homemade vinaigrette.
• Cherry San Pellegrino’s

…All packaged up in a stunning vintage picnic basket and blanket for them to bring to their chosen location ☺️

SMALL & INTENTIONAL 🌱

This is our backyard plot. We’ve made the decision to start small with our garden.

We don’t have a fence yet, and where we live, that means there’s only so much we can realistically grow without sharing the entire harvest with the local wildlife 🙈 Rather than trying to create a massive garden overnight, we’re treating these first few years as our foundation-building years.

We’re building the infrastructure. Improving the soil. Learning what grows well here. Figuring out our climate, our property, our watering systems, and our growing season.

And most importantly, we’re building skills.

At the same time, the perennials we’ve already planted are quietly doing their thing. Every year they get a little bigger, a little stronger, and a little more productive 🌿

Eventually, the fence will go up. More beds will be added. And we hope to finally grow the majority of our own food.

But when that happens, we won’t be starting from scratch 😉

We’ll have established plants. Better soil. Infrastructure. And a few years of experience behind us 👩🏼‍🌾

There’s something really satisfying about realizing that progress doesn’t always look like doing everything at once.

Sometimes it looks like planting a few things, learning as you go, and building something that will feed you for years to come 🧡

A LITTLE BEFORE & NOW 🏡✨

It’s kind of crazy looking back at where we started.

The original exterior had a much brighter (and extremely weathered) green and brown wood tones, and a completely different feel from the direction we’ve slowly been taking the property.

Fast forward to now, and the front of Wilder Lodge is finally starting to feel like us: a deep dark green, black trim, custom designed railings and a much moodier, more natural colour palette that makes us feel right at home in the mountains.

There’s still plenty more exterior work on the list, but even without everything being “finished,” the difference is pretty incredible! 🧡

Sometimes when you’re living in the middle of renovations, it feels like you’re barely making progress.

But then you put the before and after side by side… And it’s pure magic! 🪄

When we say it’s a family business, we mean it! 🧡

At Wilder Lodge, everyone pitches in.. Even the three-year-old! 😉

The past couple of days Dad and Charli have been finishing up the wood chip cover in the garden, and she was very happy to be part of the crew 🥹

One of my favourite things about having a family business is that Charli gets to grow up right in the middle of it. She sees Mama and Papa baking, gardening, cleaning, welcoming guests, fixing things, making deliveries.. And she loves being a part of it!

Sure, it might take a little longer with our littlest helper on the job, but these are the moments that make all the work worth it.

So when you stay at Wilder Lodge, buy a loaf of bread, grab a scone… You really are supporting a little family business 🧡
