Yesterday we had a fantastic afternoon in our Forest Club! We opened up the day in a talking circle about Halloween and then adjusted our boundaries further into the woods. We talked about fire safety and then started a fire but sadly could not keep it because of the wind and risk. When the wind died down we attempted another fire but the wind began to pick up again so we then decided instead to have raw s’mores which were a huge hit! We talked about weather conditions and the changing of seasons and the importance of being prepared when in the wilderness. We played sardines , hide and go seek and worked on our lashing. We went to moss island and played capture the flag and then came back to work on our shelters. It was a cold but fun day!

Today we worked on collecting fallen leaves. We talked about the changing of seasons and the beauty within trees throughout each season. We made a collage of leaves. We also spent time building a dam and working on our village of forts and camps. It was one of the most beautiful fall days yet! Woliwon Mother Earth for all your beauty and seasons!

We had a great afternoon at Forest Club today. We worked more on our forts, painted some sticks and "wands," had fun making mud pies, whittled some sticks, and enjoyed the hammocks. Jill introduced a new tool - the hand brace drill. Some of us used the drill on wood cookies to make necklaces while others tested the drill by making holes in some drift wood. It was another great afternoon spent in the woods!

Yesterday was our first official day of Forest Club! We were blessed with a beautiful warm afternoon. We started our day with a smudge, went over the boundaries and had a discussion about the importance of being outside and what nature means to each of us as an individual. Anna taught a lesson on shelter building and some different types of knots and lashings that you can use to build a shelter. We spent the afternoon making a village of shelters out of sticks, logs , ropes and tarps.

We started our Friday with a smudge and spent our afternoon playing trust and sensory games. We partnered the children up and they took turns being blindfolded and having their partner lead them to a tree. At the tree they are asked to feel it and try to remember what tree it is without using their eyes. The partner guides them back to their seat and then they unblindfold them and they are to try to find what tree it is based on their other sense such as touch. This activity promotes sensory and trust building within partners . The kids did a great job!

On Thursday at the end of our day Tommy stumbled upon a deceased mole which we soon named Mr. Moley. The kids decided he needed a proper funeral service and burial so we spent or afternoon doing so. There was many learning opportunities , questions and discussions throughout this about moles, rodents and how animals survive in nature. We were sure to scrub our hands after we buried him.
