Effective 9:00 a.m. CDT on August 12, the Implementation Order for the area surrounding Fort Frances 14 (Lac des Mille Lacs area) will be revoked. Once the order is lifted, travel and the use of roads and lakes within the affected area will be permitted.

The wildland fire hazard is currently high to extreme across the Northwest fire Region today. As the drying trend continues, we advise the public to remain cautious. Holdover lightning from the past several days has potential for new fires to start across the Northwest Region.

We would like to remind the public that a Restricted Fire Zone remains in effect due to the current fire load, the increased fire hazard, and to reduce the number of human-caused fires. Learn more about restrictions at Ontario.ca/fireupdates

With the easing of some access restrictions in areas south and east of Fort Frances 14, we want to remind the public that wildland fire operations continue in the area. Please give fire fighting crews plenty of space, avoid the use of drones within 9km of any fire and move to the edges of waterways if waterbombers are scooping from local lakes.

An additional group of wildland fire fighters from Mexico joined operations on the fireline today.

The Atikokan Cluster of fires added Fort Frances 13, a monitored fire in Quetico Park approximately 6 kilometres south of the southernmost perimeter of Fort Frances 15. The fire is 25,279 hectares in size. Its control status is ‘being observed’.

FOR014 remains not under control at 51,768 hectares. FOR015 is currently measuring 42,273 hectares and remains not under control. FOR038 remains under control at 44.2 hectares in size.
