The Province has a clear opportunity to step up and support Kelowna’s request for an early exemption to the principal residence opt-out before another summer slips away.

😓 BC’s New Short-Term Rental Registry: What You NEED to Know to Stay in Business

Big changes are here for short-term rental hosts in BC. Starting May 1, 2025, ALL hosts must register with the Province to legally operate.

📋 What You Need to Do:

Complete the online registration process and get your provincial registration number.

Display your registration number on ALL listings (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.).

💰 Registration Costs:

- $100/year if you live in the rental (e.g., renting out your home while away).
- $450/year for secondary suites, cottages, or rentals where you don’t live.
- $600/year for strata hotels offering short-term rentals.

💡 Act Early and Save:
Register by Feb 28, 2025, and get 50% off
Register by Mar 31, 2025, and get 25% off

⚠️ Miss the Deadline?

June 1, 2025: Listings without a registration number will be taken down, and bookings canceled.

Fines and enforcement are on the table for non-compliance.

I honestly believe BC's Short-term rental restrictions are going to storm across Canada in the very near future.

We were sucker punched and I think with some aggressive advocacy you can spare yourself the grief or at least see it coming in your city.
