We - Becka and Roger - lived in this yurt with two small children over 5 months, August to December, as we built our shipping container home at the other edge of the property. This size yurt is what would be used as a starter home for new couple in Mongolia. The difference is, there they live in groups with various yurts used for communal activities and community infrastructure - like cooking/eating, bathing, workshops and animal yurts. Here we have everything inside one yurt, and when we lived inside it sometimes seemed tight and challenging but mostly it was a beautiful, intimate and comforting experience. We often find ourselves missing the yurt life. This yurt brings you closer to the earth, closer to yourself and the ones you live with. On the edge of the Devil’s Punchbowl in Prince Edward Island, EarthSea is a place focused on living simple, happy and healthy. The property is on the Beaverbrook Road with a small pond on the north side and throughout the rest of the land there is a magical spruce grove to walk about. Inspired by the fantasy saga “EarthSea” by Ursula LeGuin, this 6 acre property was bought with the intention to live differently. The intention of being close with oneself, with those you love and those you live life with. EarthSea is about the magic within ourselves, our relationships with others and our connection to nature. Off grid, creative design, affordable function and self reliance lay at the heart of what is happening here. Becka chose to change lifestyles after becoming burnt by average daily grind. For her, going slower, staying closer, and living simply is healing and feels like a healthier way forward. We live on the EarthSea land at “The Homestead” in a shipping container home with our little family. Together we are building EarthSea to be a place for people to try living in alternate ways and learn about off-grid and solar powered living. We invite people to ask questions and learn more by seeing someone who is doing it and how! It is also about the magic of nature and the power of walking barefoot in the grass. It is about being aware of how much water we are consuming and generating our own power. Cultivating as much of my food as we can, and recycling, salvaging, reusing and simply using what we have first before jumping to the box store. Come rest yourself, you deserve it. What an intense ride this life can be! EarthSea currently has one rentable unit - The Yurt with tenting sites not far behind. The big dream is to create multiple unique units for people to consider as housing possibilities.
