Statistics Canada reported Tuesday that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 1.6% in September, a key figure for those tracking interest rates.

In August, CPI dropped to 2%, its lowest point since early 2021 and within the Bank of Canada’s target range. September’s change confirms a continued downward trend in inflation, providing the central bank with a clear path to continue rate cuts.

With three quarter-point rate cuts already behind us, economists expect the Bank of Canada to announce another comparable cut at its meeting next week.

Following the Bank of Canada’s two consecutive interest rate cuts
