Unfortunately, we’ve received some frustrating news from the Ministry of Transportation regarding the closure of Hwy 607.
Now that the water levels are actually lower than when the road was first closed due to flooding, I was hopeful the highway would reopen and traffic could simply proceed slowly around the potholes so life — and business — could continue as normal.
Instead, this was the response we received:
“I can appreciate the concerns expressed by locals. Ministry staff have been monitoring daily and our concern is the condition of a 600 mm centreline culvert just north of the Murdock River bridge. In an effort to mitigate local residents and businesses, the closure has been shortened between Dry Pine Rd. and Bakers Bay Rd. in advance of the long weekend coming.”
What this means for us is that, as a tourist business, we are still stuck between two road closure signs during the first long weekend of summer.
But we’re going to do our best to work around it.
We WILL still have minnows, leeches, and worms fully stocked and ready for opening weekend, and we don’t want anyone missing out on the high-quality bait we provide.
We’ll be offering roadside orders outside the closure zone:
• Preorder by phone
• Cash payment
• Roadside delivery available
We’re determined to still make this work for our customers.
This yearly flooding situation really needs to be addressed because our community here in French River is suffering. Local businesses are being affected, and residents are dealing with damage to their homes and properties year after year.
That being said, we’ll continue doing everything we can to provide the best service possible. And during challenging times like these, local support means more than ever.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support small businesses like ours ❤️
