Krummholz is a German word for a type of stunted, deformed vegetation (encountered in the subarctic landscapes) that is shaped continual exposure to fierce, freezing winds.

Here at The Cove you'll usually hear us use tuckamore, the Newfoundland & Labrador word for trees formed by wild winds.

There is also such a thing as a flag tree or banner tree, describing when the branches on the windward side are killed or deformed by the almost-constant winds.

Does a person need a dad here to get the tire back on? No.

Would a dad have put the tire back on much faster? Yes, but we don't need to go on about it.

A little wind isn't enough to take down sunflowers that live on the northside!

Full disclosure; A "little wind" was NE gusts of up to 90km and those breezes most certainly laid down the sunflower plants. However, it did not break them, so they were still able to bloom after the storm passed.

There's a life lesson in here somewhere.
