William Ricketts Sanctuary is a gorgeous drive a little over 30 minutes from The Ranges Inn. Wow, what an amazing artist. In 2021 a lot of his work was damaged due to a severe storm that hit the Dandenong Ranges, it also destroyed many buildings, knocked down trees and was brutal to those involved. Parks Victoria have worked hard to get the sanctuary back open to the public and its free to visit, reopening on the 3rd of August 2026. There is so much to see, so much detail in the art and still so much work behind the scenes being completed.
Here is some basic facts because i would love if you visit and learn more...
1.William was born in 1898 and died in 1993 working on the sanctuary until his death.
2.His work was inspired by the Pitjantjatjara and Arrernte areas in central Australia where he visited frequently learning about their culture and traditions.
3.Its another great place to visit whilst using The Ranges Inn as your base camp.
