The African Insurance OrganisationPresident Mr Alaa El-Zoheiry says Artificial Intelligence must be a a practical tool for African re/insurance and not a buzzword for young and growing African economies increasingly exposed to risks that do not respect borders such as climate shocks, pandemics, cyber threats, and supply chain volatility.
Speaking during the 30th African Reinsurance Forum in Balaclava, Mauritius, the AIO - African Insurance Organisation President said "the challenge is no longer collecting data. The challenge is turning it into decisions that protect lives, livelihoods, and capital. As reinsurance moves on trust and timing, AI-powered underwriting, fraud detection, and claims analytics can reduce turnaround from weeks to days, sometimes hours. AI generated speed enhances our capacity to respond when our clients need us most and gives us better insight for better pricing, and better pricing means more people can afford to be insured"
This revolution, he said, means deeper risk insights, speed and efficiency in data collection and analysis, increased product innovation and stronger capital management.
However, Alaa El-Zoheiry said re/insurers equally have a collective responsibility in managing the fallouts of AI and ensure it works towards the desired goals.
He emphasised on data integrity which entails better data sharing, common standards, and secure frameworks across respective countries
