Today's chef at 4Gatos: Raphaëlle! 👩‍🍳❤️

On the menu? Homemade Italian tiramisu. 🇮🇹

From preparing the ingredients to adding the final chocolate topping, she took on the challenge of making dessert for everyone.

Of course, Emilio was there to make sure it passed quality control. 😂

One of the things we love about homeschooling is how much learning happens in ordinary moments like these.

Following a recipe, measuring, being patient, creating something with your own hands… and then seeing everyone gather around the table to enjoy it.

Learning by doing. And sharing the results. ❤️

Something unexpected has happened over the past few months.

Running has quietly become part of life at 4Gatos. 🏃❤️

It started with us running together. Then the children began competing. A local athletics coach noticed them, and suddenly something that had simply been part of our family life became a little more serious.

Now they train. I train. We challenge each other. We have very different speeds 😅 — but we're doing it together.

And perhaps that's the part we love most.

Different speeds. One family. ❤️

One of the best parts of welcoming other families: everyone brings something to share.

Learning happens everywhere. 🌎🌿

One of the things I’ve come to value most about this chapter of our family life is the freedom to make space for days like this. ❤️

For my birthday, there was no big plan. We wandered around Pinchote, had lunch, explored a little and spent the afternoon simply enjoying being together.

And this time, “together” included the family who have been staying with us at 4Gatos.

That has become another unexpected part of this journey. Families arrive as visitors, but when you share breakfasts, ordinary days, children playing and learning together, conversations, outings and a little piece of everyday life, something different can happen.

Perhaps that’s one of the things I appreciate most about the homeschooling and worldschooling community: having the time and freedom not only to discover new places, but to really connect with the people you meet along the way.

No big birthday plans. Just family, good company and time together.

Sometimes the simplest days become the ones you remember. ❤️

Hosting at 4Gatos has always been about more than offering a place to stay. ❤️

It’s about sharing a little of our life here — exploring together, discovering unexpected things along the way, slowing down, eating together, and letting our families simply enjoy the journey.

This week, that means sharing our corner of Colombia with new friends from Israel. 🇨🇴🇮🇱

Different families. Different countries. A few days of life shared together.

This is 4Gatos. 🌿❤️

What does a school day look like here?

Homeschooling has made us think differently about what counts as learning.

Of course there are maths, languages, reading and writing. But there’s also moving our bodies, caring for animals, helping around the house, solving problems and learning to do things for ourselves.

Most of these aren’t “lessons” we planned. They’re simply part of everyday life.

And that’s something we increasingly value — giving our children opportunities to become curious, responsible, capable and independent.

We want them to learn things, of course. But we also want their first reaction when they face something they don’t know how to do to be:

“Let me see if I can figure this out.”

Sometimes that happens in front of a computer. Sometimes while running. Sometimes with a chicken, a vacuum cleaner or a bicycle that refuses to cooperate. 😄

For us, it all counts. ❤️

Some of the best moments at 4Gatos happen around the table. ❤️

This time, our guests took over the wood-fired oven. 🔥

They showed us how they prepare a leg of lamb, we learned a few things along the way, and eventually everyone gathered around the table to enjoy the result.

That's one of the things we love about welcoming families from different parts of the world. It's not only about sharing our home with them — they bring a little of their world into ours too.

Different countries, different stories, new things to learn — and, for a few days, one table to share.

The food is part of it. But really, it's about who you share it with. ❤️

The classroom looks a little different around here. ❤️

One of the things we've learned from homeschooling is that learning doesn't need to happen in one particular place.

Some days it's around the kitchen table. Some days it's outside. Sometimes it's with a laptop, a book or a pencil — and sometimes it comes from whatever happens to catch their curiosity that day.

We're still figuring it out as we go.

But there's something pretty special about seeing them work around this table, with the doors open, the fountain outside and the mountains in the background.
