Looking for pet sitters for 3-4 months (June-August/September)

Hi all,

We are Misha and Yenkim and we are looking for a couple (or two friends) that would like to take care of our house and our two dogs. We will be away for 3-4 months, starting from June. We are located in between San Francisco de Coyote and the beautiful beach Playa Coyote, in Guanacaste.

The house is situated in an 1 hectare garden with lots of fruit trees. You will be surrounded by nature and will experience how beautiful and incredible she is. The area itself is safe and quiet, and you will be welcomed by a very sweet community.

We have a fully equipped kitchen, hot shower and there is wifi. In the bedroom there is a fan but no airconditioning. Having a car is recommended. If you are interested or when you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We don’t ask much. Only to be sweet for our dogs, to keep an eye on the house and your daily consumption of electricity, internet and water (those are low).

Many thanks,
Yenkim & Misha

Dear all,

As you might know (and can see by our amount of posts) we are both terrible in our Facebook communication. We mostly use it to update our beloved friends and family, i.e. you, and we haven’t been doing that enough. So our sincere apologies for that.

To update you all – we are doing very good. The rainy season here is wet, green and beautiful and we have a lot of little and big projects to keep us busy.
The only thing that we experience as more difficult is not being able to see our family and friends up close. But in the situation today, we are not alone in this.

We have contemplated going to Holland for some time, to visit loved ones and to have a good time with friends. But that seemed like a bad decision – travel is difficult and by traveling we would also cause unnecessary risk for older people. Also when visiting, a hug would in many cases not even be possible!!!

So in these circumstances, we have decided to stay put here in Costa Rica. We will open the hostel & camping a bit later this year, since foreign tourism has almost come to a standstill. We are hoping that this will pick up again a bit in December and will open our doors again around the 1st of that month.

For everybody that is interested in traveling to Costa Rica, we have created an informational page on our website which we will keep up to date with the contemporary situation in the country. If you are interested, check it out at www.alouatta.org/covid-19 and please, share SHARE SHARE with as many people possible and especially people that you know that are planning on going to Costa Rica!

Much love, stay safe,
Yen and Misha

Proud of these ‘little’ trees

We just joined a nature conservation project and have planted more than 30 trees in our garden. We got help from our lovely volunteers who took great care of them. The trees are all native trees and some of them are threatened species. Most of these threatened species are cut down because of their beautiful wood like the Cocobolo and Caoba. Others are just really beautiful and flourish magically like the Cortez Amarillo.

To preserve nature, the foundation Uerpa started the initiative multiplying these trees and give them away to anyone who is interested in planting them. When you join the project they register how many trees you have taken and where they are planted. We made a little map so people always can keep track of it, also for future protection 🌳

New season!

We are back in Costa Rica and just opened our doors again since a week. We already received guests from Portugal, France, Germany, The Netherlands, United States and Canada. So nice having all those people of different nationalities visiting. We also have two friends over helping us like champions which is great!

We are ready and looking forward to another great season! Bienvenidos a todos!!!

We added a few pictures for the memory 🙂 Check them out!

A recent study has found that mortality rate by ingestion of plastic by ocean dwelling animals (like birds and turtles) are highest with:

🎈🎈🎈 BALLOONS!!! 🎈🎈🎈

So please people:
Next time you celebrate your birthday, please try to refrain from decorating your awesome party with them!

And especially don't join events where balloon releases are part of the program.

Keep your parties eco-friendly!

Love,
Y&M

The data showed that a seabird ingesting a single piece of plastic had a 20 per cent chance of mortality, rising to 50 per cent for nine items and 100 per cent for 93 items.

We found Wallyyy!!! 🐳

Yesterday we had a very special day. We went out onto the ocean at Playa Coyote for five hours on a ‘panga’, a traditional Costa Rican fisherboat.

We saw an Olive Ridley turtle, a big Manta ray and a lot of dolphins. We were already sooo satisfied and then we saw something that caught our attention, we didn’t know at first but it appeared to be Humpback whales! When we came closer we saw it was a mother with her two babies! They were swimming around us for more than half an hour. There is no way to describe the beauty of a whale or how we felt seeing them.

It’s very special to see them here because they are only two days a year in the bay at Coyote. A neighbour told us he had seen them in the morning before, so we didn’t want to miss the chance and immediately called a befriended fisherman to ask if he could take us out into the bay. And luckily he could!

It’s incredibly powerful when you see them, to hear them breathing. Goosebumps all over our bodies. An unstoppable smile. A day never to forget.

Holaaa chicos!

A few weeks ago, Darla Bijou pitched Alouatta with Annemarie Moerman, who is working at the Dutch newspaper the 'Telegraaf'. They were working on a special about camping. She asked us to do an interview about our place and we happily obliged.

We think the idea of a camping special is a real nice initiative and the magazine has become very beautiful! Enjoy the article!

Thank you Darla and Annemarie!

Hi everyone,

We have been open for one month now and we already have had a bunch of great guests! It feels like it's going to be a good season again. We also made some new signs and they might have done their job already. At least they were seen by our guests and passers-by.

And we have some other good news! We expand our hostel with a puppyyyy! Her name is Bibu. We made up her name together with a French family, a combination of petit bull (small bull dog) and boue (mud), haha.

Check out the photos!

Lots of love,
Y&M

Ready for our third season!

Dear friends,

We just opened this week for our third season. After a few months back home in The Netherlands, we couldn't wait to go back to Costa Rica. It's great to see the people here again and to be living in the middle of nature being surrounded by animals.

The rainy season also did a good job this year; all the trees and plants have grown enormously which makes our garden very beautiful.

The last weeks we have been busy with working in the garden and setting up the hostel. A lovely friend came to help us so we are totally ready for it. We're looking forward to meet new people again from around the world and to give them a memorable stay. A few pictures below to show you where we live and work in and to motivate YOU in coming this way :)

Love,
Y&M
