Tortuguero is a true natural paradise in Costa Rica, known for its lush tropical rainforest, which features three distinct life zones: very humid tropical forest, humid premontane forest, and humid tropical forest. Notable species include the Manu tree, the captive tree, the pilón tree, and the male cedar, among others. As for fauna, the park is home to a large number of mammals, including jaguars, sloths, howler monkeys, and 400 species of birds. It is also the most important sea turtle nesting site in the Western Hemisphere.

The turtle season has officially come to an end, to celebrate this special time, they’ve created the annual Turtle Fest, a beloved festival that brings our community together to celebrate and honor these amazing creatures, as well as the institutions that protect them.
We're grateful for the opportunity to share the wonder of turtles with all of you through the turtle tour and look forward to next year's season, meanwhile we continue working for the conservation of sea turtles and the protection of the environment as part of our contribution to sustainability.

A special guest.

The Emerald Basilisk, also known as the Green Basilisk or Plumed Basilisk, is a species of lizard that belongs to the family Corytophanidae. Its scientific name is Basiliscus plumifrons. Here are some fascinating facts about this creature.

The Emerald Basilisk has a striking bright green color with black and white streaks along its neck and back. Males have three crests: one on the head, one on the back, and one on the tail, while females typically only have a single crest on their head.

They inhabit hot, humid rainforests with streams, rivers, or other water bodies in Central America, including Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama.

The Emerald Basilisk is known for its remarkable ability to run across water using its hind legs and tail for support. This behavior is typically used as a threat response or to escape predators.
They are omnivorous, feeding on insects, small vertebrates, fruits, and flowers. In captivity, they can be fed crickets, locusts, and other insects.

Male Esmeralda Basilisks are territorial and can be aggressive towards each other. They are also excellent swimmers and can stay underwater for up to an hour.

Females lay multiple clutches of eggs per season, with 4-17 eggs per clutch. The eggs hatch after
