There’s a crisp autumn chill in the air—jacket season is officially here!

As temperatures drop, city strolls mean pulling out the trench coats, light jackets, and puffers while exploring the cobblestone alleyways of the Inner City. From the historic brick backdrop of Nikolaj Plads to the colorful facades along Ny Adelgade and Grønnegade, autumn brings a lovely warmth to these medieval streets.

A great stop along this walk is Nikolaj Kunsthal (Sankt Nikolaj Kirke). Built in the early 13th century, it’s one of Copenhagen’s oldest church buildings, rebuilt in 1909 with its famous 35-meter tower before becoming a contemporary art space.

FACTS:
- Nikolaj Kunsthal: Dating back to around 1200, this former church lost its spire in the Great Fire of 1795 and was rebuilt in 1909 with support from Carlsberg founder Carl Jacobsen.
- Ny Adelgade & Grønnegade: Lauded for its charm, this corner area dates back to the 17th century and features C.L. Seifert, a historic merchant supplier famous for crafting traditional Danish student caps (studenterhuer) since 1865.

TIPS:
- Closest Metro Station: Kongens Nytorv St. (lines M1, M2, M3, and M4) is just a 3-minute walk (250m) away.
- Detour down Grønnegade to see preserved 18th-century timber-framed buildings while exploring the neighborhood.

Warm autumn sunlight and incredible urban energy—there’s no place in the city quite as vibrant as Rådhuspladsen (City Hall Square) as the crisp season sets in!
Whether it’s commuters streaming out of the Metro, locals heading into Strøget, or visitors taking in the grand historic facades, Rådhuspladsen is truly Copenhagen’s beating heart.

From the dramatic bronze dragons of Dragespringvandet spraying water toward Tivoli to the iconic 105.6-meter clock tower watching over the crowds below, every corner of the square tells a story of the city's evolution!

FACT:
- Before becoming the main civic square, Rådhuspladsen was the location of the medieval western gate (Vesterport) and the city's bustling hay market (Halmtorvet) until 1888, when the market was relocated.

TIP:
- Closest Metro Station: Rådhuspladsen St. (lines M3 and M4) drops you off right in the center of the square.
- For Photographers: Exit the Rådhuspladsen Metro station via the outdoor staircase facing south for a stunning low-angle perspective framing people ascending the stairs right below the City Hall tower.

There’s something so hypnotic about watching the pulse of the city from above!

Standing along the open trench near Vesterport Station, you get a front-row seat to the constant flow of DSB trains—both S-tog suburban trains and regional trains—approaching and departing through the open railway cutting into the Boulevard Line tunnel. Frame by frame, you can spot classic red S-trains weaving through the tracks, framed by vibrant autumn leaves creeping down the stone walls and the pastel, colorful facade of the iconic Palads Teatret building standing bright in the background.

Originally opened in 1934 and designed by DSB chief architect K.T. Seest, Vesterport is one of Copenhagen’s busiest S-train hubs. It’s the perfect spot to capture the contrast between historic transport routes and the lively colors of Axeltorv!

FACT:
Palads Teatret: The iconic, brightly painted building in the background opened in 1918 as a grand cinema palace. Its famous colorful pastel exterior was painted in 1989 by Danish artist Poul Gernes.

TIP:
Best Spot for Railfans: Stand on the pedestrian overpass/bridge at Vester Farimagsgade or along Hammerichsgade for the ultimate elevated view looking down directly over the tracks, Palads, and the tunnel entrance.

A cool, moody breeze and rich golden facades—there’s an undeniable cozy atmosphere creeping into Christianshavn as the seasons shift! 🍂⛵️️ (photos are from lste Autumn 2025)

Strolling along Overgaden Oven Vandet and Overgaden Neden Vandet, the canal feels like a quiet world of its own. Among the floating houseboats and brick bridges stands one of our favorite historic landmarks in the neighborhood: Søkvæsthuset.

Built in 1754–1755 by architect Johan Christian Conradi, this grand yellow complex was originally founded by King Frederik V as Det Kongelige Opfostringshus (a royal home and school for orphaned boys). By 1775, it was converted into the Royal Naval Hospice (Søkvæsthuset), serving wounded sailors and naval veterans. Today, its iconic yellow walls, tiled roofs, and quiet courtyard stand as a preserved piece of 18th-century maritime history right along the canal bank.

FACTS:
Søkvæsthuset: Originally built in 1754–1755 as an orphanage, this listed landmark on Overgaden Oven Vandet served as Denmark's primary naval military hospital for over a century starting in 1775.
Cultural Connection: In the 1830s, famed Danish literary couple Johan Ludvig and Johanne Louise Heiberg lived in the garden wing of Søkvæsthuset, where Heiberg authored his famous vaudeville play En søndag på Amager.

TIPS:
- Closest Metro Station: Christianshavn St. (lines M1 and M2) is just a short 3 to 5-minute walk from Overgaden Oven Vandet.
- Cross over the small pedestrian bridge Børnebroen connecting Wilders Kanal to Christianshavns Kanal for some of the best framed photo perspectives of the houseboats against the historic architecture.

We had the most fantastic time visiting Høstmarked 2026 at Frilandsmuseet! 🌾🍎 It was full of incredible experiences—from local market stalls and live folk music to historic garden walks and autumn activities.

Write this down in your calendar for next year! 🗓️ And if you missed it this time, don’t worry—the museum is still open (closed Mondays) and has plenty more exciting events lined up, including Halloween and Christmas! 🎃🎄

Golden sunlight, crisp autumn air, and the gentle sway of wooden ship masts—there is nothing quite like an early fall walk around Nyhavn!

While many head straight to the famous bright facades, exploring the quieter end near the harbor mouth offers a totally different feel. From strolling past historic veteran ships to grabbing a coffee right by the water, this historic harbor always feels like stepping into a postcard.

FACTS:
- Nyhavn was excavated between 1670 and 1673 under King Christian V to connect the harbor directly to Kongens Nytorv, built in part by Swedish prisoners of war from the Dano-Swedish War.
- The quiet southern side of the canal is preserved as an official museum harbor where historic wooden ships—like the 1898 veteran ship Oranje docked at Nyhavn 65—are permanently moored.

TIPS:
- Closest Metro Station: Kongens Nytorv (lines M1, M2, M3, and M4) is located right at the end of the canal, making it a quick 2-minute walk to the waterfront.
- Skip the busiest cafe terraces in the middle of the canal and head to the quieter wooden docks along the outer harbor end (near Nyhavn 65) for a far more peaceful spot to sit by the water.

Looking for a fantastic day trip that both locals and visitors in Copenhagen will love? Just a short S-train and bus ride from the city center brings you to Museum Ordrupgaard, a true hidden gem for art, architecture, and nature lovers!

Whether you're exploring their impressive permanent collection—featuring masterworks of French Impressionism and Danish Golden Age art—or wandering through Finn Juhl’s iconic house and the surrounding Art Park, there is so much to experience.

We recently visited to check out their captivating temporary exhibition, Pekka Halonen – Finland Kalder. Halonen’s breathtaking, snow-draped landscapes and vivid depictions of Finnish life are absolutely stunning to see in person!

How to get there from Copenhagen:
Take the S-train (Line C towards Klampenborg) to Klampenborg St.
Switch to Bus 388, which drops you off right at the Vilvordevej stop, just a 2-minute walk from the museum entrance!

Crisp autumn air and bright blue skies—there’s nothing quite like an early fall walk along Copenhagen’s waterfront!

Starting from the historic wooden harbor decks near Nyhavn, past the traditional tall ships, and continuing along Kvæsthusmolen to Skuespillerhuset, the harbourfront is filled with small discoveries. One of our favorite moments was pausing in front of the bronze bust overlooking the water.

The sculpture honors Bodil Begtrup (1903–1987), Denmark’s first female ambassador and a pioneering human rights advocate who played a key role as chair of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Unveiled outside the Royal Danish Playhouse (Skuespillerhuset), the bronze bust was created by sculptor Eva Hjorth and sits atop a tall plinth engraved with text from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

It’s the perfect spot to stop, reflect, and enjoy the crisp harborside reflections as yellow harbor buses glide across the water!

FACTS:
- Bodil Begtrup statue: Unveiled outside Skuespillerhuset by sculptor Eva Hjorth, this bronze bust celebrates the Danish diplomat who championed gender equality into the 1948 UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- Skuespillerhuset (Royal Danish Playhouse): Completed in 2008 by Lundgaard & Tranberg, over 40% of the glass building juts out over the harbor water, resting on 500 oak pilings while using seawater for ecological temperature cooling.

TIPS:
- The nearest Copenhagen Metro stop is Kongens Nytorv (M1, M2, M3, and M4 lines), located just a short 5 to 7-minute walk through Nyhavn to the waterfront promenade.
- Take a walk along the perimeter timber boardwalk of Skuespillerhuset at golden hour to see the reflections of Operaen and the harbor traffic mirrored in its glass facade.

Advert Captain H - Looking for an authentic, cozy, and thoroughly satisfying dining spot in Østerbro? We recently had the pleasure of being invited for dinner at Captain H, a Chinese BBQ and Korean Bistro just a short walk from Trianglen Metro Station, and it completely blew us away.

From the moment you step inside, the vibe is warm, laid-back, and inviting. The space appeals to all ages—from group gatherings and families with kids to local regulars.

We started with their incredible selection of skewers—chicken, lamb, and beef—marinated to perfection in rich sweet and spicy sauces and grilled beautifully. For the adventurous eaters, they also serve dishes like bullfrog and beef kidneys. It was actually our first time trying bullfrog, and it was surprisingly tender and full of flavor!

Next up was the Northeastern Chinese Hotpot, bubbling spicy broth served with an array of skewers and fresh ingredients to cook at the table, including beef tripe, fungus, kelp root, potato noodles, lamb, and beef. Dipped into Captain H ‘s secret oil sauces, it’s such an interactive, comforting, and fun way to share a meal with friends. Don’t worry if you’ve never done hot pot before; the wonderful staff are super knowledgeable and walk you through every step.

A few must-orders from our feast:
- Korean style chicken wings: Absolutely unmissable—crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor.
- Dolsot Bibimbab: A comfort food classic executed to perfection.
- Sides: Fresh kimchi, pickled radish, and cucumber salad that provided the perfect crisp balance to the meats.

The drink experience was just as fun! Maxi started with a cold Tsingtao b**r before trying out their personal draft b**r dispenser right at the table. Maro, who goes alcohol-free, had plenty of great imported Asian soft drinks to choose from.

With warm hospitality, incredible flavor variety, and an atmosphere that makes you want to linger, Captain H is a place we can’t recommend enough. Book a table as soon as you can—you’re in for a treat!
