🚨 NEW SCAM ALERT — HOLIDAY RENTAL OWNERS & AGENTS

A new scam method is targeting holiday rental owners, property managers and rental agents.

The scammer contacts you pretending to be a genuine potential guest who wants to book your property.

However, instead of actually making a reservation, they are trying to collect detailed information about the property.

They may ask questions such as:

• What floor is the apartment on?
• What is the exact apartment number?
• How many stairs are there to reach the apartment?
• Is there a lift?
• What is the exact location within the complex?
• What payment methods do you accept?
• What are your rates during different periods?
• Can you send additional photos?

⚠️ Important: These questions alone do NOT mean someone is a scammer.
Genuine guests may ask the same questions for perfectly legitimate reasons.

🚩 The warning sign is the overall pattern — especially when someone collects a large amount of specific property information without showing genuine intention to book.

Once they have enough information, the scammer can use your photos, property details, location and pricing to pretend to be the owner or a legitimate agent.

⚠️ They may NOT create a fake public listing.

Instead, they can offer the property privately and directly to potential guests, sending them your photos and property details while pretending the property belongs to them.

This can make the scam much harder to discover.

✅ Verify unusual enquiries when necessary
✅ Protect sensitive property information
✅ Watermark your property photos where appropriate
✅ Monitor for unauthorised use of your photos
✅ Look at the overall behaviour, not just individual questions
✅ Be cautious when someone repeatedly requests extensive details but avoids actually making a reservation

A genuine guest asking detailed questions is not automatically suspicious.
