Winter weather is not the same throughout the winter in Saariselkä.

This is usually what happens!

❄️ The first permanent snow usually arrives in November, but you never know exactly when. You also never really know what the weather will bring. Everything is a mystery in November.

❄️ December is all about Christmas, snow, festive spirit and lots of visitors coming to experience this special time. The polar night begins, making it the darkest time of the year.

❄️ January is statistically the coldest and snowiest month. Quite often it is like that! This is the time to come if you want to experience extreme weather and a real winter wonderland. The polar night ends, so the days slowly start getting brighter.

❄️ In February, the weather is usually still cold and there is plenty of snow. You also start to see sunshine during the day. You can enjoy more outdoor activities because the weather gives you a break and there is actually some daylight.

❄️ March brings longer days and milder temperatures. Winter is still very much here. You can smell, see and feel that spring is coming.

❄️ In April, we say goodbye to winter.

Soon we’ll be singing Christmas songs 🎶, enjoying festive treats 🍬 and decorating our homes for the season 🎄.

Christmas in Saariselkä is something special. Snow-covered landscapes, stars shining in the dark sky and that unique Christmas atmosphere make the holiday feel like a real winter escape.

It may feel like Finnish Lapland is far away, but it is not that difficult to get here.

✈️ The nearest airport is in Ivalo, just 30 kilometers from the hotel. From the airport, you can reach Lapland Hotels Riekonlinna by local bus, which stops right in front of the hotel, or by taxi. The airport is tiny but functional.

If you arrive at Rovaniemi Airport or the railway station, there are regular 🚌 buses to Saariselkä that also stop directly in front of the hotel. The distance is about 260 kilometers. 😍 You will see amazing landscapes along the way.

🚗 Travelling by car is also an option for some. We have free parking for our guests.

Do you need more space or do you want your own sauna for your holiday?

🏨 Apartment-style accommodation is a great option if you want a home-like place or if you are travelling with a larger party and need more space. And who would not like to enjoy a sauna every day after outdoor activities?

The apartments are located in a separate building just 100 metres from the hotel. You can still enjoy all the hotel services just as easily and your stay includes, for example, our buffet breakfast.
