I have a confession to make… This is the first time we have been to Chateau de Biron. You can get a bit castled- out/ blasé about the stunning surroundings and historical monuments in the but this did not disappoint. An unexpected highlight was watching the swallow chicks being fed. Like hungry hippos all bobbing their heads. The views were stunning and you can stroll around at your own pace, bring a picnic to enjoy under the walnut tree. We combined our Sunday wondering with Issigeac market. A lovely day out.

Something a bit different …Every picture tells a story. What a night! Sore feet and dusty boots. The Cure playing at festival in Place de Quinconce,Bordeaux. 2.5 hrs of glorious music. Let’s hope it’s the start of many great gigs there. Probably about the 12th time I’ve seen them, sort of lost count and I still absolutely love them, almost 40 years on🖤 Just a bit further from the front these days! Chateau De Carsac

What does Chateau De Carsac offer?
The main house (chateau) has 5 large double bedrooms, 2 with en-suites, a large kitchen with Lacanche range, American fridge and w**e fridge. A large dining room, library and sunroom with TV. There’s a heated pool, terrace for outdoor dining with stunning views, loggia to hideaway from the midday sun, 6 acres of grounds with orchard and lakes. This can be rented by itself or in conjunction with 2 smaller gites for larger parties.

Le Chalet a large 1 bedroom gite. (There’s space for an extra bed if required.) The chalet is set up so you feel immersed in nature. With a large kitchen opening onto the terrace, you can enjoy al fresco dining or sip a chilled glass of w**e, watch the sunset and listen to the frogs sing. It too can be rented independently or in conjunction with the other properties.

La Maison du Gardien is the smallest of the houses. As with the others, this can be part of a larger group or rented separately. It is perfect for a couple who want to explore the region. There’s an eat in kitchen with sitting room and log burner. After breakfast under the fig tree, you can explore local vineyards or take a stroll to the beautiful Lac de Gurson for a cooling dip.

The old chateau is undergoing a little extra support at the moment so it can stand for another 800 years. The etching (in the last photo) is from 1800s and you can see not that much has changed.
A lintel within le chalet has an ornate crown with fleur de lyse engraved over it. It is most likely that this stone was originally from the chateau and was “repurposed” when the chateau was built. Thank you to our outgoing guests for their wonderful drone photos and updates. We love seeing our guests enjoy themselves. I bought these old postcards from early 1900s on eBay. It’s quite incredible what you can find. The chapel was originally Roman but for you history needs, there are also 3 graves of soldiers killed during the 100 years war.
The Battle of Castillon was fought on 17 July 1453, at the end of the Hundred Years’ War at Castillon-la-Bataille, on the Dordogne River.
It effectively ended the Hundred Years’ War and the English lost Bordeaux to the French.

As I have mentioned before, the chateau was originally built in 1775 ( along with a few other houses in the village) as a presbytery for the church. Skip forward a couple of hundred years and a family bought the chateau after the war. They were seeking rural solace after being traumatised by the bombing in Normandy.
But here are some great shots captured today. Thank you Giles Berkshire It hasn’t changed much in the last 120 years. Even the tree is the same!

“If you can make jam, you can taste summer all winter long”.
Sorry about the hat! A poor fashion choice but it was good shade. Some of the fruit has been collected and the jam has been made. There are still lots of plums left to ripen off, the figs are coming in and in September there will be apples, pears, quince and medlar.

A perfect day by the pool.

There are few things more French than gathering on the terrace for l’apéro.

A bottle on ice, freshly shucked local oysters, a squeeze of lemon, and nowhere to be except enjoying the view.

These are the moments that make a stay special.
