Couldn’t agree more with Catherine Tate on this one. Theatre should be accessible, not priced out of reach. When tickets are £50 or more, you’re shutting people out of an art form and tradition that should be for everyone – young and old alike.
That’s why it’s worth praising amateur dramatic groups and smaller local theatres, who keep prices low while still putting on evenings of great entertainment. Many of us have seen brilliant performances in those spaces, and it’s something we should be grateful for. They keep the spirit of theatre alive and open to all.
