🗞️ NEWS: Honda set to confirm 2027 WEC entry 👀🇯🇵
Honda are on the verge of confirming entry into the WEC’s Hypercar class as early as 2027.
Heres what you need to know…
⌛️ IMMINENT APPROVAL: Reports today from multiple outlets suggest that Honda, and its corresponding motorsport departments around the world are nearing agreement to take the current LMDh racer to the global stage.
The Acura ARX-06 will be rebadged as a Honda, one of the key stepping stones to WEC entry, and programme that could happen as soon as 2027.
One of the other hurdles thought to be holding Honda back was they wanted to see an LMDh car win Le Mans before committing to joining WEC. Although this hasn’t happened, it’s thought the success of the GTP project and Porsche’s WEC title has caused a shift.
🤝 TEAM DEAL: Honda’s hesitancy to join the booming top class has been twofold - financial and operational.
Both concerns look set to be eased with a reported deal with a current LMP2 team, rumoured to be two-time Le Mans class winners Inter Europol Competition.
Recently the IMSA GTP operation has offered a framework as HRC USA have operated alongside Meyer Shank Racing since 2025, including the complete ownership of the No.93 entry - which won at Detroit and inherited overall pole at Daytona a week ago.
That framework - factory-backed, but privately funded - would be applied to the prospective WEC operation.
It’s not an unusual approach, with most recent entries being the Aston Martin Heart of Racing programme funded largely by Gabe Newell, owner of the Steam platform.
🧐 THE DEADLINE: Friday’s reports suggest that a final decision could be made by the Sebring 12 Hour race weekend in March.
That would see Honda become the third manufacturer to join in 2027, alongside new programmes from Ford and McLaren. All three set to use the LMDh platform.
OE contacted Honda, Inter Europol Competition and potential drivers but received “no comment” responses.
