Come on a dog walk at Wandylaw with me. It was lovely to see great swathes of purple as we arrived at Wandylaw the other day. The farmer has planted scorpion w**d (lacy phacelia) around the margins of the field- it’s not a wildflower I’m familiar with, but presumably it has some ecological benefit as well as being very beautiful. There is a 20 minute loop that our Paddy likes to do, around the western and southern edges of Top Field , across the Western edge of Bottom Fields and then up the lane back on to the drive round to the Nook. It’s a walk I love in every season and variously along the way affords views of the Farne Islands, Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island and has a birdy soundtrack - always have your Merlin Bird ID app to hand! We often see hares and at this time of year the swallows are swooping low over the fields. It’s my happy place

Do you love a fish shack? Whenever we’re at the Nook we try and fit in a visit to Robin Creel & Reel Seafood Trailer . I always have a prawn burger (because I love them, YUM) . Usually to be found at the Dunes car Park at Bamburgh (park for an hour for free!). This is neither a traditional chippy or posh nosh! But it is good quality fresh fish and seafood, simply prepared - if you’re feeling fancy you can have lobster and chips ! There’s a self service drinks station and a few picnic benches. On our recent visit we shared a bench with a couple who had driven down from Edinburgh for the day, and appeared to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. Add it to your list of must-do’s on your Northumbrian coastal holiday

As we enter busy season, I did a flying visit to the Nook yesterday to have a restock and general check. It was a glorious sunny blue sky day and the swallows have arrived! Happy days! That terrible wet winter seems a long time ago now, doesn’t it?!
