Nik the Greek, Burryport, West Wales.
I am lucky enough to have family who own second homes in Burryport and I spend a lot of time there in our family holiday home, this weekend though we thought we would try the local Greek restaurants accommodation as it always has good reviews. However, my experience was a bit different to reviews I’ve seen. 🫣
Firstly, the location of the accommodation is in a great place, right in the heart of the village near all amenities with cafes, 2 pubs a fish shop and a gift shop right on your doorstep.
The check in is self check in via a key coded box down the lane at the left hand side of the property which is where the entrance for the accommodation is. The lane is dark at night at smells like satans skidmark and reeks of p**s where people probably think it’s best to get their arses out and relieve themselves after a few too many cheap pints in the pubs opposite 😂
On opening the entrance door the main entrance passage walls were dirty and chipped and looked like they needed a fresh lick of paint. We had paid £57 for a small double which included our 13% discount, otherwise our room would have cost £65.
A small room was definitely what we got as there was literally just a bed with two small wonky, make shift suitcase tables either side. I was delighted to see a fan in the room because it was a sunny 25 degrees that day and with the room being so small there was no air at all 🥵. The bed looked cosy and clean until further inspection where I discovered the scatter cushions were badly stained and there was jet black hair on the pillow, maybe the cleaner had a lay down after changing the bedding as it was a hell of a job to manouvre around it in such a small space 😂
The carpet was stained and tired, and looked dirty and grubby, as were the walls and around the sockets and light switches, the blind was broken and was afraid to touch it as it looked as if it was hung up literally by a thread. Which left us with a beautiful view of a huge, noisey extractor fan directly outside our room.
A tea and coffee tray was provided on the window sill along with bottled water and fresh milk left out in the sun in the window all day, hmmm 🤔 nothing beats a nice drop of warm curdled milk or a warm bottle of water on a hot day does it? 😩
We shrugged it off as I knew I wouldn’t be eating or drinking there from what I had already seen anyway. The external bathroom was next to our room on the main landing and walk way, which I found a little worrying as the place was busy and there was a note on the door saying “for use of room 5 only” indicating anyone and everyone probably walks past and uses it. Door handles of the bathroom were absolutely filthy which again made me think anyone and everyone uses this room as a public toilet, towels were fresh and clean though and the tiles, sink unit and toilet looked new.
This was a budget room and a budget price, and I suppose you get what you pay for, the bed was comfortable and we did get a good nights sleep regardless of the fan outside but the cleanliness of the accommodation wasn’t great and definitely needs a little redecorating. Overall not a terrible stay,we have stayed in worse for a higher price, and I think with a little redecorating this would be lovely again, but I wouldn’t stay there again, sorry 🫣 but it’s a 4/10 score for this one.
