The picturesque village of Clovelly is just along the coast, while Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are within easy reach. Welcome to The Hoops Inn, a 13th century thatched inn steeped in history and famous as the haunt of smugglers and a meeting place for seafarers such as Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Richard Grenville. Today, it is a welcoming and relaxed residential inn with
blazing log fires in inglenook fireplaces serving good food and excellent local ales. Set on the Atlantic Highway (A39), The Hoops is easy to find and the perfect base for both relaxation and recreation. The picturesque village of Clovelly is a short drive or a delightful coastal walk from the inn, while Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are within easy reach. We use fresh, local seasonal ingredients in our dishes and guests can choose to dine in the candlelit restaurant, in the relaxed bars or, on balmy summer days, outdoors on the covered courtyard. There are lots of activities on The Hoops’ doorstep to be enjoyed throughout the year including golf, fishing, sailing, hiking, surfing and biking. In addition to the many historic houses, beautiful gardens and quaint coves and villages, The Hoops Inn has more than 8 acres of landscaped grounds for guests to enjoy. More energetic walkers and birdwatchers can follow the steps of Henry Williamson’s Otter on the Tarka Trail, take a trip to Lundy Island or ramble along the North Devon Coastal Path. The Hoops Inn has 13 individual rooms ranging from our comfortable standard rooms in the Coach House to suites in the main building. We have suites with four poster beds – perfect for a romantic weekend or just getting away from the hectic pace of everyday life.
