It might not be the biggest number on Facebook, but for us, it feels pretty special.

When David and I started sharing our journey at Tawnamoor Rural Retreat, we simply wanted to give people a glimpse into the place we love, the animals that call it home, the beautiful Cornish countryside around us, and the vision we have for creating a place where people can truly Rest. Reset. Revive.

So seeing 500 of you choose to follow along means a great deal.

For quite some time, David and I had been talking about finding a farm cat for Tawnamoor Rural Retreat.

Living where we do, on the edge of Cardinham Woods and surrounded by nature, it felt like something that would become part of the fabric of life here. We weren’t in a rush and weren’t looking for a particular cat, but whilst we were away recently, we reached out to the wonderful team at the RSPCA Cornwall Branch to see if they could point us in the right direction.

They came back with Poldark.

Yesterday, we brought him home.

It’s very early days and, as you can imagine, he’s taking everything in his stride, exploring at his own pace and working out whether he approves of his new humans. We have no doubt he has a story to tell, and we’re simply grateful to be part of his next chapter.

Many of you already know Joy, our rescue greyhound, and if there’s one thing we have learnt, it’s that rescue animals have an incredible way of finding their place in your heart. We love all animals here at Tawnamoor Rural Retreat, but we do seem to have a particular soft spot for those looking for a second chance.

A huge thank you to the amazing team at the RSPCA Cornwall Branch for everything they do. The care, dedication and compassion they show day in, day out is remarkable, and we are incredibly grateful for the support they gave us throughout the process.

The RSPCA Cornwall Branch is holding an Open Cat Meet Weekend this coming weekend, so if you’ve been thinking about adopting a cat, why not pop along and meet some of the cats looking for their forever homes. You might just find that they choose you.

There’s just something about cooking and eating outdoors that makes life feel a little slower, a little happier and a whole lot tastier.

This week is National BBQ Week and honestly,
we are here for it.

At Tawnamoor Rural Retreat every cottage has its own BBQ, because food just tastes better outside with birds singing, a glass in hand and nowhere else you need to be.

Whether it’s breakfast in the sunshine, burgers at golden hour or marshmallows under the stars, outdoor cooking has a way of bringing people together and helping us properly switch off.

And for our retreat guests and events, our outdoor kitchen space at the wilderness spa and events area is all about shared experiences, relaxed conversations and creating moments people remember long after the plates are cleared.

Sometimes the best memories are the simplest ones.

Good food. Fresh air. Great people. Cornwall at its best.
