Barn Owl update.
Last week we had a visit from Dave and Will who are our local RSPB licensed bird handlers. They ringed our 2 Barn Owl chicks that are in a nesting box at the farm. The chicks were weighed and had their wing feathers measured which tells us how old they are. According to the chart they are 49 days old. They also told us that if the inside of the wing feathers are speckled they are female and pure white means they are male so we have one of each. They were also able to see the mothers ring number which told us she was ringed in Scotland and has travelled an unusually long way for a Barn Owl.
