Paying our respects to a gentleman who died 120 years ago, finally given a funeral service along with the other 15 souls he was buried alongside. Thanks to Westminster Royal British Legion Standard Bearer and Bugler.

I was requested by a family, who did their own research to find a suitable Celebrant for their dads funeral service. He was a deeply spiritual man, who meditated daily and taught Yoga πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ

It was a very spiritual service, and the peaceful ambience in the chapel was felt by all, although sad it was such a celebration of a life well lived and loved.

This was the message I received this morning πŸ™πŸ’œπŸ™

More photos to follow, but thr most moving and emotional day.

I was honoured to have been asked to help with this, and with the help of in his role as Chairman of the Royal British Legion in Orpington, we were able to find a Bugler for The Last Post, and a Standard Bearer to recognise his military service during the 1st World War, where ge served in India and Mesapotamia.

It was such a moving and emotional afternoon, finally laying to rest a man who was never allowed a proper funeral, due to how he died.

Walter James Burley 1881 - 1920 may you rest in peace.

So, I will be planting some trees in National Trust Woodlands again, in memory of all the Dads we have loved and lost.

With Father's Day coming up on 21st June, it can be a tough time for us, those who are left behind.

So I want to do something positive and plant a couple of trees through the National Trust initiative.

Please leave your Dads name below in the comments. I will try to add every dads name I'm given, to the National Trust....I will post the certificate on here, once I have done it.

Being a Celebrant draws on many life skills.

Listening is one of them.... but also getting a feel for a person is important too.

Its part of the role I love, a bit of detective work, piecing things together and doing my homework. It can take a lot of hours of work, but I love it.

I got this lovely email from a funeral arranger today, which meant the absolute world to me. I haven't been working with this company for very long, so to have received this was such a lovely surprise.

Every family I look after, I give 100% to, so when it is recognised, especially by a funeral arranger, it means the absolute world to me.

I often take a moment to sit on a walk, take in the beauty of the place around me, but wish I could share that moment with those I have lost.

So, I imagine they are sat with me, and in my head, I have a conversation with them.

It helps, massively, I tell them they are missed, that life has changed a lot since they've been gone, and that they aren't forgotten. I also tell them what's been going on since they left.

Who would you have a conversation with, and what would you say?

Regret can really complicate our grief.

We sometimes put off saying something that needs to be said, for fear of many things.....

But we are sometimes robbed of having the opportunity to say it, if a loved one passes.

And then we live with regret and grief combined.

I recently saw a post on Facebook of someone who had lost a friend, and they also said they were sorry and that they loved them. But they also said that it was too late....

Tell those who need to be told that you love them

Say sorry if it needs to be said

Thank those who deserve your appreciation.

Don't leave it too late

When things are planned, requests are known, and we can focus on our grief. The death of a loved one, whether expected or sudden can be just a little bit easier to cope with if we know what they wanted.
