Tudor Lodge 8886

Tudor Lodge 8886 We are a Freemason’s Lodge that meets in Cardiff under the UGLE constitution. The ceremonial is quite different as our rituals follow Taylor's Working.

We meet four times a year, usually on fourth Tuesdays in January, April, June and September.

Freemasons are always there first getting relief on the ground quickly

🇺🇦 Like the rest of the world we, along with United Grand Lodge of England, have been closely monitoring the unfolding Ukrainian refugee crisis.

⛑️ Today, we have been in contact with British Red Cross to find out how best to support those fleeing the invasion, and have made a £50,000 donation in Freemasons' name.

👉If you would like to donate additional funds, we have set up the 'Ukraine Crisis Appeal' fund: www.justgiving.com/campaign/Relief-Chest-Scheme-UKRAINE2022

Tudor Lodge No:8886 - Brief History
In 1978 there was a proposal to form a Lodge to please Londoners who’d moved to South Wales and could not find enthusiasts of Taylor's Ritual. The ceremonial is longer than Emulation and Oxford. It has great attention placed on well regulated floor-work, as well as the spoken word.

Wor. Bro. Arthur Cowley championed the cause and set about forming a lodge in 1978. It opened with much acclaim from the Province; there were about 6 London Freemasons and over twenty local brethren. Within about five years it had gained a momentum of its own and was ‘the place to visit’ for many South Wales brethren and, of course, it continued to recruit Londoners who had moved to Cardiff in the following decades. The lodge was fortunate to have dedicated and enthusiastic Masters of Ceremonies over the years who carried the torch for perfecting the delivery of ritual and the precise floor-work.

40 years on it is even stronger than many other local lodges. Some say this is because officers meet at least twice before each ceremony but the master stroke was to invite ladies to dine with us frequently. The result is that more families are involved which enhances the social as well as the Masonic quality of a lodge. Even in times of a pandemic our Zoom meetings are busy, even a bit noisy - but Tudor is alive with keen people!

Don't be one of the silent few!
Christmas is upon us and we need to cement our friendship among subscribing members and even wider by keeping in touch with those who need that bond of friendship.

These pages are there for all to use and they are much better for being busy. Send us a picture of fantastic food or an event and let us know how you are managing in these extraordinary times. Tudor Lodge has an Almoner whose duty is key to providing care to our members, their families, widows, dependents, and resigned members who may be experiencing difficulties in their life.

Please let our Worshipful Master or any other member know if we can help you. We know you will help your neighbours in need - but above all let's celebrate the holiday by keeping positive and smiling as we raise a figurative glass to each other!
😀
Cheers

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

The spirit of the usual festivities has not disappeared but depends on each of us bringing joy to each other. Tudor Lodge urges you to enjoy Christmas positively and happily.
Freemasonry is open to anyone who believes in a supreme being and this is the moment to think of others. Among Freemasons in the UK we mostly have Christians, but also many followers from the Jewish faith, several Buddhists and adherents of Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism, which shows the universality of Freemasonry.
Please join us in extending seasonal greeting to people near you - give them a ring, e-mail, WhatsApp, or whatever is best for them.
Keep safe, be happy - keep smiling, and keep your friends smiling!

COVID OR NOT - We Remain Active

We're still an active lodge amid the Covid-19 constraints. But our activities are mainly on-line or by phone. Members chatted every Thursday after neighbourhood clapping, and even now we continue a fortnightly hook-up on Zoom. Several members are very good at phoning and call those who are more isolated to see that all is well - which so far they are!

We're taking part in various Provincial initiatives to bind us together but we really do look forward to the time we can meet again face to face. Tell us what you would like to see as a means of keeping in touch with Tudor Lodge No:8886.

TUDOR LODGE MEETS IN VIRTUAL WORLD

Tudor Lodge held a virtual meeting on the very day we would have held a regular lodge meeting (Tuesday, 28 April). The meeting was hosted on Zoom and conducted some of the lodge business, notably ratification of a ballot was successfully concluded.

Proposition to freeze a previously approved increase in annual subscription from May 2020 was put to a vote online using a secure ballot. This ballot was then ratified at the virtual meeting.

In addition, the ZOOM meeting of members was a joyous occasion as it brought together a goodly number of members who are currently prevented from making a physical presence because of self isolation.

Freemasonry is not a substitute for religion. It demands of its members a belief in a Supreme Being but provides no system of faith of its own.

Freemasonry is open to men of all religious faiths. The discussion of religion at its meetings is forbidden. Tudor Lodge 8886 is unusual in having had Hindu, Jewish and Muslim members, though the majority are mainly Christians.

We, as Freemasons should be proud of the fact that all charitable donations we collect are made by our brethren and never collect from outside the fraternity. We should be even more happier because we not only look after our own but many worthy causes outside the fraternity - be it local, national or international.

For every pound spent, 86 pence was paid out in grants and support services for Freemasons and their families facing difficulty, and charities that work directly with vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society. Matching last year, just seven pence of every pound is spent on the administration r...

It is always good to initiate two young men on the same evening, but this ceremony was unique for Tudor Lodge 8886 as the Holy Koran was used, it being the VSL for Muslim brethren. We were grateful to several visitors who travelled from quite long distances to witness Taylor's Working. We were honoured that our Provincial Grand Master should come along to congratulate the lodge on a very special ceremony and to welcome our two new Brethren to the Craft.

In every corner of the world, where there is a disaster or distress to fellow humans, Freemasons are always there!

In response to the devastating Australian bushfires sweeping across the country, we have donated AUS $150,000 to the three most affected states: New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, whose disaster funds will each receive AUS $50,000.

⚠️ 2,136 homes have been destroyed in New South Wales alone, more than 1,200 of which have burned down since New Year's Eve.
