Who else thinks autumn is the countryside at its absolute best? 🍂

The first signs are always there if you know where to look. A coolness in the morning air, mist drifting across the fields, the smell of woodsmoke, and sunlight filtering through leaves that seem to turn from green to gold almost overnight.

Autumn has always been one of our favourite seasons here at The Little House. Pull on your walking boots and step straight from the door onto miles of beautiful footpaths through ancient woodland. Enjoy the satisfying crunch of leaves beneath your feet, breathe in the fresh autumn air, and keep an eye out for deer, badgers and the busy wildlife making the most of the season before winter arrives.

Then return to your own cosy retreat. Light the log burner, or wrap yourselves in a blanket beside the fire pit, toasting marshmallows beneath a sky full of stars. There really is something rather magical about ending the day with dancing flames, good company and nowhere else you need to be.

The walks are quieter, the colours are spectacular, the pubs are welcoming, and somehow life just feels a little slower.

If summer is for rushing around, autumn is for slowing down.

Are you team autumn, or do you wish summer could last forever? 🍁

Have you ever felt like you just need to disappear for a few days?

Not because anything is wrong.

Just because life has become a little too full.

Too many people needing something from you. Too many things on the list. Too much noise.

Perhaps it’s time to press pause.

Come on your own. Bring the dog. Leave the expectations at home.

For a few days, you get to be completely, wonderfully selfish.

Sleep as long as you like. Walk for miles or not at all. Sit with a coffee and watch the birds. Read your book by the fire. Go out for lunch. Stay in for dinner. Change your mind. Do exactly what you want, when you want.

And there’s something rather lovely about knowing that someone is nearby if you need them, but no one is going to interrupt your peace.

At The Little House, you’ll always have a warm welcome, a little help if you need it and plenty of space to simply be.

No entertaining.
No compromising.
No having to be ‘on’.

Just you, the woods, the wildlife and a few days to breathe.

Because sometimes the greatest luxury isn’t having everything done for you.

It’s having absolutely nothing you have to do. ❤️

🔥 Who else thinks that lighting the log burner for the first time deserves a little ceremony?

The days are getting shorter, the mornings a little crisper and the evenings are calling for cosy jumpers, thick socks and a log burner gently crackling away.

At The Little House, there’s an unlimited supply of logs, so once you’ve lit the fire, there’s no need to worry about running out. Just settle back on the sofa and enjoy the glow.

And if you’ve never used a log burner before, don’t panic. There’s a handy QR code that takes you to a little video of Nick showing you how to light it and get the best from your fire.

Although, even if you’re a seasoned log burner expert, please do scan it.

It gives Nick great pleasure and he remains convinced he’s just one view away from going viral. 😂😉

Cosy evenings at The Little House are officially back. 🔥

How long could you sit completely still if it meant a badger might come right up to you? 🦡

After falling in love with the badgers on her first evening at The Little House, Nicky was determined to get some special photos the following night.

Now, badgers are rare, shy and not particularly keen on posing for the camera. They certainly haven’t read the influencer handbook.

So she followed all the advice. Dark clothing, no perfume or strong scents, no sudden movements and above all, keep very quiet.

She turned out to be exceptionally good at sitting still. I mean REALLY still.

And it worked.

She managed to get within a few feet of them, with the badgers carrying on with their evening as though she wasn’t there.

The best part? There was no fancy camera or enormous lens. Just a very basic mobile phone.

Yet she captured some lovely photos, with the badgers quite literally at her feet.

But I think the photos are only part of the story.

She got to sit quietly in their world for a little while and experience something very few people ever get to see.

And that is a memory that lasts forever. ❤️🦡

Would you forgive this face for eating your garden? 🦌

It’s the early hours. The windows are open and all is quiet…

Apart from the unmistakable sound of someone munching their way through the garden.

Munch. Munch. Munch.

You know the horses are safely tucked up in their stables, so who is helping themselves to the plants you’ve spent weeks trying to keep alive through the drought?

A quick peek through the back door reveals the culprit.

A beautiful deer, casually helping himself to the garden as though he’s booked an all-inclusive stay.

You should be cross.

You really should.

But then he looks at you with those eyes and you find yourself thinking, “Well… perhaps just finish that one.” 😂

Could you forgive him, or would you be protecting your plants at all costs?

A rare woodland visitor skipped past the badger cam last night. Do you know what he is? Did you recognise him straight away?

If you could only have ONE takeaway for the rest of your holidays, what would you choose? 🍕🍛🍜

This is clearly a very important question.

After a day exploring the Surrey Hills, walking your dog or watching the wildlife, sometimes the thought of getting dressed up and going out for dinner is just too much effort.

Sometimes you want to come back to The Little House, pour yourself a drink, get settled in for an evening of watching badger cam and have dinner delivered to the door.

Luckily, we have some great local takeaway options and we’ve included our favourites in the guest guide.

So come on then… what’s your ultimate takeaway? 👇

Would you like to see what really goes on at the badger sett after dark? 🦡

The secret life of this little family is full of grooming sessions, wrestling matches, squabbles, cuddles and the occasional bit of complete badger nonsense.

And the best bit?

You can watch it all from the comfort of The Little House, without having to sit quietly in a hedge waiting for them to appear.

If you’d like to witness the secret life of the sett for yourself, book your stay and settle in for the show. 🦡❤️

100. We’ve finally got to 100. ❤️

Not bookings.
Not guests.

100 five-star Airbnb reviews. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

And here’s the really important bit… every single review we have had has been five stars.

I’m not going to pretend that I’m not ridiculously proud.

When we opened The Little House, we hoped people would enjoy staying here. We never imagined quite how many of you would come back, recommend us to friends, send us photos of your adventures, tell us about the wildlife you spotted and leave such lovely words afterwards.

Thank you to every guest who has stayed at The Little House, taken the time to leave a review, shared us with friends, returned for another visit, and made the space feel so loved. You’ve watched the badgers emerge at dusk, spotted deer in the fields, curled up with blankets, and enjoyed quiet evenings by the fire pit. You’ve truly brought the place to life.

But a guest choosing to come back, or recommend us to a friend, is probably the biggest compliment we could ever receive.

And if you’re reading this and thinking about booking, I hope that’s what this gives you, confidence.

Confidence that what you see is what you get.
Confidence that people genuinely love staying here.
And confidence to book direct and come and experience it for yourself.

So thank you to every single person who has stayed, reviewed, recommended us or told someone else about our little corner of the Surrey Hills.

We really do appreciate every one.

Here’s to the next 100.

Although perhaps we’ll celebrate with a cup of tea first. ☕️

If you’ve stayed at The Little House, what’s the one thing you remember most? I’d love to know. ❤️

Does being surrounded by wildlife mean you have to rough it? Absolutely not. 😂

Yes, you might wake up to a deer quietly grazing outside.

You might spot badgers pottering past the garden, hear an owl in the woods or catch a glimpse of a fox before breakfast.

But that doesn’t mean you need to embrace the life of a woodland hermit.

Inside The Little House, we’re rather partial to a bit of luxury. 🥂

Think gorgeous luxury linens, soft robes, lovely fresh flowers, beautiful toiletries, our famous chocolate brownies and all those little details that make you think, “Ooh, someone’s really thought about this.”

Because we think the perfect countryside escape should give you the best of both worlds.

Nature on the doorstep.

Luxury when you close the door.

And absolutely no need to sleep on a scratchy blanket while pretending you’re enjoying the rustic experience. 😂

Wildlife outside.
Comfort inside.
Perfect. ❤️
