THE SUN HOTEL TO LEVERS WATER

To start take a right between the pub and cottage,follow past the buildings over the small bridge and pass the slate shop.After the slate shop go through the gate/stile and keeping river on your right carry on till you get to MINERS BRIDGE,so cross the bridge go through the stile and then turn left up the slope,once at the coniston hydro dam you get the full view of COPPERMINES VALLEY,AT this point you see a white building at the far end of the valley,so follow the track to here go past and following the same track you come to a gate,pass through and follow track all the way,the next mark is the water station,after the water station follow the track that goes up to the right and you keep on this track snaking your way up,after a little while you will see the rewards,you have arrived at LEVERS WATER.
So stay for coffee snack etc etc and pictures.
After a break the return journey is just the same ,so drop down the track to water station,following the path till you get to YHA building,keep going down the valley to the hydro dam,drop down the hill to MINERS BRIDGE go over the bridge go left and follow river till you go through the gate and then pass the slate shop,over the little river bridge,through the buildings and then you see a welcome site THE SUN CONISTON

pop in for refreshment and a meal

THE SUN TO CONISTON OLD MAN

so start at the sun take a right between the pub and cottage,follow through the buildings,once a little drop go over the small bridge up the hill and pass the slate shop.then proceed through the gate keeping river on right.when you reach miners bridge do not cross,but take the path that follows the river with the river on your right,as you progress along this path you will go through 4 gates,at the last gate you take the path going straight on from here you start to get higher very quickly,so follow this path as you go through the main part where the coppermines equipment was,then soon after here you will come to lows water,here you can take a breather and take a look at the last bit,from lows water to the top of coniston old man I think is hardest bit.so of we go set of from here it is one path all the way to top.as you approach the top always get some pictures,once at the top get the pictures and have a brew on a clear day you can see morecambe bay,duddon estuary,windermere and loads more,once you got pictures and views start the decent so all you do is rewind the walk up,so passing lows water,coppermines main equipment and going through the gate and then dropping down through more gates with coppermines river on your left all the time.once at miners bridge follow the path that follows the river going through a gate passed the slate shop and over the little bridge,going through the buildings then the welcome site of the sun is there.time for a well earned drink

THE SUN,WALNA SCAR CARPARK.BASE OF OLD MAN AND LEVERS WATER

So away we go left the sun go upto the give way turn right and follow the road round the left hand bend.then infront of you there be a very steep hill,so proceed up the hill for a good while and then you come to a car park,this is wanna scar car park.so go through the gate and follow the path to the right and you are walking under coniston old man.after a good while you come to some cross paths at this point you go straight over in the direction of levers water.so nice and peaceful today as cloud was down so no big views after a while on this path you will come to levers water.on the path down you will see a big cave entrance.just look DO NOT ENTER.so pass this walk along the edge of levers water until you get to where the water flows out.there are a couple steps down walk across and on the other side you will see the track that goes down towards valley bottom.(if been heavy rain you may have to walk round levers water as the overflow will be in flood).
So follow the track to the bottom passing few old buildings and waterfalls
Once near to the bottom you will see a big white house.(COPPERMINES YHA),so carry on past walking along side the coppermines beck.once you reach the dam,you drop down the hill and you will see MINERS BRIDGEgo over take the left path and follow the path that follows the river and then go through the stile and past the SLATE SHOP over the little bridge and then through the buildings and yes back to base the sun hotel for a well earned drink and a meal

The walk started at the coniston mountain rescue just up from the sun and ended up on the top of WETHERLAM and return to
the sun hotel for refreshments

sorry no great detail but cannot remember route but basically was
Coniston mountain rescue along path behind the sun hotel up into Coppermines valley.headed round levers water upto wetherlam and the return down other side wetherlam towards Coppermines valley and return to sun hotel

THE SUN CONISTON TO TARN HOWS LOOP

so upon leaving the sun go down the hill to the giveway at the bottom,take a left over the bridge and go straight on passed the church and follow the road passing a few shops and the main carpark,after this the houses will get less and you come to a bridge go over the bridge aiming towards the lake.after the bridge keep left on the pathway and follow this all the way until you get to top of coniston water,here you turn left and follow the path alongside the main road,after a short while you will come to a small bridge go over and then you got a handful of yards on the edge of the road,once you get to next gate go through and you are back on the path so follow this till next bridge go over and through the gate,cross the road and follow the path straight in front,from here it's one path through the wood,but always follow the Tarn hows signs as there are numerous other routes here,after a good stroll you will come to a sign with Tarn hows in two directions,so I took the straight on one so carry on this way and after a little while you come to a gate,go through and on to the road hang left and go down the hill and Tarn hows is ymthere at Tarn hows there are lots of places to get pictures,when you get on the grass bank looking down the Tarn you will see a path that goes around the Tarn,this path will put about another 30-40 mins on your walk,
Upon leaving the grass bank aim in the direction of the car park and as you walk through you will see a building at the end this is the toilet block and also there is a little cafe cabinthere for refreshments.once happy for return to coniston walk back to car park barrie and this time you take a sharp right and follow this path that goes up and above the cafe/toilets,as you pass the cafe you will see a gate go through and follow this path,after a little while you will join the other path where you had the choice on the way up,so once on the other path aim right and follow the path in reverse,but after a little while you will see a little pond of water on the left,maybe a picture,then return to the path and carry on down till you reach the little lane go over through the gate over the bridge and follow till next gate go on to road with caution and then back on to the path just passed the entrance,once on this path go over the bridge and follow to top of the lake,aim right and carry on over another bridge and just keep on the same path all the way until you get to the river bridge by edge of coniston,go over and keep straight aiming for the main part of the village,once you reach the main part of village go past the car park and church,after the church go over the bridge go to the right aim up the hill and then you back at the sun coniston

THE SUN LOOP WALK VIA BLUBIRD CAFE

So walk begins outside the sun,turn left and go down the hill to give way at bottom.here you see the garage so cross road and go past the garage until you get to junction,here is a sign post says gondola and lakeside.take a left and walk down lake road passing a play park and a school,once you get to the left bend at the end you can either follow the road over the bridge,or like I do go across and go between the few units,as you pass through you will see the path by the river and then you see a bridge,cross over the bridge and turn right and follow the road down to the lake.once at the lake you take a left and follow the path between the trees after a little while you will come across the next bridge go over the bridge and follow the path first and then on the road.after a little while you come to a cattle grid go over this and cross the road and turn left.follow this path until you get to the bridge,here go straight on for village centre,as you go along you see the main car park,bus stop and shops,once passed the church you see a giveway and a bridge go over the bridge and take a right and go back up the hill and you will be back at the sun

The sun hotel along old railway line

This walk you start at the sun,then go up little hill till you get to give way.here turn right and then round the left bend,after left bend turn left by giveway go past the old station yard and mountain rescue.after mountain rescue go past all the houses then you be met with a bridge.go under the bridge through the gate and follow the old railway line until you g*y a sign saying the ship pub,here turn left go through the stile and drop down to the ship,at the ship cross road and turn left and follow the path back towards coniston village,after you pass a couple of seats you will see a footpath sign saying coniston hall.so over the stile and go across the first field through a gate,then across again going over a small stream.then through a gate and aim towards the main path to coniston hall.once you meet the main path turn left and aim towards the units in the distance,so go through a couple gates and after a little while you come to a stile by lake road,go through the stile and walk up lake road towards the village passing john Ruskington school and a play park,once at the giveaway you go straight across up the hill follow the road till at the giveaway and the pub is on your right
