Another beautiful day here on the Croft!

There have been some beautiful yachts moored in the bay in front of our croft over the last few days. Every summer, boats stop here to enjoy the shelter and tranquillity before continuing their journey around the Hebrides, and it’s always lovely to watch them come and go.

It’s one of those little things that makes staying here so special. The views are never quite the same from one day to the next.

With our current guests all settled in and enjoying the island, we took the opportunity to pop out for a fun day ourselves; brunch in Stornoway, hunting for cowrie shells on Vatisker Beach, a walk in the woods at Lews Castle Grounds, finished off with a delicious dinner. What’s on your itinerary??

My new image, which is really just the beginning of a personal project exploring the traditions of mummers, guising and folk costumes. There’s something about these extraordinary costumes that completely captures my imagination, an uncanny embodiment of magic in real life.
I’m hoping this will grow into a series of illustrations and, eventually, a collection of reduction lino prints.
I’m not sure how saleable they’ll be, but I’d love to know what you think. Is this the sort of thing anyone else would be interested in?
